Where is "Check for updates" in the Mac version( 5.5.1 )

I read a release about a new version of Evernote being out. It said to download from the Evernote site or use "check for updates" in the app in order to get the latest version. I tried to do "check for updates", but I cannot find that menu option anywhere, and definitely not in the usual place ( Help menu ). 

 

Has it gone the way of the DoDo? or perhaps I just missed it?

The Check for Updates menu item is under the Evernote menu or in Preferences under the Software update tab.  The new 5.6 release is only available for versions of the software downloaded from Evernote.com.  We have not yet updated the Mac App Store version.

I just installed 5.6 and, as you stated, the "check for updates" menu option in  the Evernote menu. I did not see it anywhere in 5.5.1, but that is water underneath the bridge as I don't plan on downgrading to that version.  Thank you for taking the time to answer.

TheGooch, you probably had a version from the Mac App Store. It'll never go away again
