rlwilliams 0 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I have been getting an error message that says, " Sync failed due to unexpected behavior at the client side." This has been happening for days and I can not get Evernote to sync with the server. This computer will not sync to update and so Evernote does not update on any of my other devices. I checked the Activity Log and I see the following: 16:31:41 [5708] 0% EDAMUserException: errorCode=LIMIT_REACHED parameter="Notebook"16:31:41 [5460] Client synchronization finished, status: failed16:31:41 [5460] * error: Sync failed due to unexpected behavior at the client side I am using a PC with Windows 7. It looks like Evernote thinks I have over 250 Notebooks, but I have been deleting and consolidating information because at one time I went over the limit. I now have under 250 notebooks, but am still getting the error message "Sync failed due to unexpected behavior at the client side." Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Level 5* gazumped 12,238 Posted September 2, 2014 Level 5* Posted September 2, 2014 Hi - have you checked the state of your notebook online? Is it up to date or are there still changes to upload? If it is up to date and you are a windows user, I suggest you just rename your database file and allow Evernote to rebuild it from the server. If it is not up to date, can you identify the notebooks which are affected? If so you could export the notebook(s) to ENEX file(s), then rebuild the database as above and re-import the changes.
rlwilliams 0 Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 Thanks for your input gazumped! I have been working on my PC, so the online Evernote is not updated based on what I have on my PC. I also use a Mac, iPhone, and iPad. All three of the later have the same information as my online Evernote. It's the PC that won't update from what I have seen. Is it possible to save all of my notebooks from my PC as ENEX files, delete the program, and then import them into Evernote back to the PC? Will this update my online Evernote as well? I'm waiting for the Evernote team to get back in touch with me, but I'm really tired of waiting. I'm afraid I'm going to lose information and I'm afraid to use the program since it won't update. This is so frustrating!
Level 5* gazumped 12,238 Posted September 8, 2014 Level 5* Posted September 8, 2014 Sorry that I took a while to respond - had a visit to a Twilight Zone that pretty much excluded phone and wifi connections for a while! Back to RL now anyway - and yes, you could export your current database to ENEX files, one notebook at a time, with the option to include tags ticked. (ENEX doesn't record notebook metadata). If you have no unsynced files that export can act as a backup; all you need do is remove Evernote from your PC and delete related files including notes. Then reinstall and log in - Evernote will recreate the database files from the server copy. If you do have unsynced files you could export them to ENEX files notebook by notebook - check in List view and sort the Sync column. Then import them once your database is refreshed to recreate the notes. Make sure you keep a backup of all your notes - if all else fails you can at least return to this point.
