Windows Desktop takes 3-4 minutes to load

Hi all! Evernote couldn't solve my problem, maybe one of you can help me?

 

I use EN on my home Win8.1 machine, my work Win7 and my Android phone. At work and on the phone, all's cool.

 

But at home, in the Windows client, for several months now it takes 2-3, even more minutes to finish loading - the program windows open just fine but the lists and notes take that long to come up. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, I sent my log to Evernote tech support a couple months ago, they thought newer versions might fix it - but I have the new GA release out this week and still ... it's not a huge issue, I can wait a few minutes - I've seen someone talk about rebuilding the local database, I figure it has to be something in that database since work and phone are just fine, all open fine - oh and no other programs on my home PC (a Lenovo laptop, 1-2 years old) are having any similar issues.

 

I'll cut paste my current log below. Note at the start the nearly 3 minutes it took to open the database. Do I really have to, like, delete that .exb file, then ... what, uninstall/reinstall, or just sign in and let it rebuild it again locally?

Any advice most appreciated! The least-hassle fix brings the gratest karma of course;-)

Hmm... I AM on the current general release, 5.6.4.4632.  I did run betas for a while but it felt... well, I've done my share of beta testing over the years, if it doesn't solve my problem I prefer sticking to general release. Might submit a ticket, thanks.

Well I moved the current database to desktop, logged back in - took a bit, it was funky - and it still takes 3-4 minutes to load. So I just sent them the activity log again, sigh. Back where I started. Doesn't happen on my work Win7 PC, or my Android phone - only on the Win 8.1 laptop that is my main home workhorse machine. And it doesn't happen in other programs. Sigh. Oh well it was worth a shot.

Let's see, I have made a good friend of Evernote tech and we DID find a workaround - installing an old (last year) version of EN and it loaded very fast. Eventually upgraded to the most recent and the 4-minute database load returned. He said they had seen the same thing happen on a machine with Logitech drivers. I use a Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse (and Webcam) - I may try uninstalling the Webcam but dang it I shouldn't have to uninstall drivers to get Evernote to load in a normal speed;-(

 

UPDATE: I removed the Logitech Webcam device (don't use it much) and it loaded right away. Shut it, tried to open it again - it wouldn't. Eventually did and back to lag in loading. Part of me wants to roll back or use the dang Web version instead of this frustrating mess. It's maddening!)

I have wireless Logitech mouse and keyboard, but not webcam.  No issues with load time.  FWIW.  

 

Agree, if it is the webcam driver, doesn't make sense for that to hose up EN.  OTOH, provides someone with the information to fix the problem.

EUREKA!

After a spin on my machine remotely, and with the help of a colleague,. EN's Terry O'Donnel gave me the fairly simple fix.

I opened the database folder and moved ALL the content (well, except announcements, it wouldn't move that) out to a temporary folder on my desktop.

THEN I logged in and it rebuilt the database - and it loads fast once again!

I guess the very first time we did it we didn't move the cached stuff, and this clears it all out.

Whew. That 4-minute load time was driving me nuts! I hope this answer works for someone else and eases THEIR frustration tool!l)
