How do I add reminder WITHOUT any notification?

Recommended Posts

Please tell me why do you FORCE users to use reminders with notifications? There are hundreds of thousands of different users with different preferences and you have assumed that every single one wants to use notifications?

PLEASE give us the option to disable notification for reminders. PLEASE.

I suspect that notifications are something which happens automatically within Android rather than something imposed by Evernote.  They're a 'feature' of using any sort of reactive app on an Android machine - every time something happens,  you get a warning from the OS.  Your post will be read by the developers,  so if there are any options available,  maybe they'll look into this further.

In general, you should get notifications for notes that don't have a reminder that doesn't have a date. You may be able to turn them off globally for your device/client, possibly on a notebook by notebook basis but I'm not as familiar with the Android client vis-a-vis reminders.

No. Before the latest update, adding notification to a new reminder was only optional. After the latest update, every new reminder will have a notification automatically set for next day whether I like it or not. Developers don't allow users to disable this behaviour for some strange reason.

Wasn't aware that we had any options previously,  but as I said - the devs will see this,  so maybe they can review this situation if someone doesn't come up with a magic wand solution..

Are you unable to hit cancel when prompted to set a date for your note reminder?

Excuse me... did you actually try it before you replied to my post? You would have known that hitting the cancel button doesn't cancel the notification. It's automatically set for the following day. You can only change the time and date but you can't turn it off while creating a new reminder.

I used the reminders as a to-do list. Now I have to search for another app just for this purpose, which isn't ideal.

First, before we get all cross-eyed and cranky, can we please be a little more clear about what we're talking about here? I understood that were were discussing the Android client, where there is no Cancel button.

And can we be clear about our terminology? A reminder is an attribute of a note. It can have a date associated with it, a due date, if you will. Notifications are not properties of reminders; they are external actions (an email, an Android notification, etc.) that trigger based on the due date of a reminder note. Notifications appear to be global (or semi-global) in nature; there doesn't seem to be any way to have notifications turned on or off for a particular reminder.

In any case, when I add a reminder to a note in Android, there's a popup that says "Add Date". If I tap elsewhere on the screen from the popup, th epopup dismisses, I get a reminder without a date. Similarly, on the Windows client, I can add a reminder to an exiting note by tapping on its Reminder icon in the note editor interface, and again, clicking away from the Add Date popup menu item (hitting Escape works too); that reminder has no date. ranted I am running prerelease versions of both of these clients, so I maintain that you can indeed add reminders without dates, or soon will be able to.

Given that, have we established that a reminder without a date does or does not cause a notification to fire in Android (or any other client)?

I was referring to if and when you reached the 'Set Date', selecting 'cancel' will add your reminder without a date. As Jefito mentioned, you can also tap elsewhere on the screen from the popup, the popup dismisses, and you'll get a reminder without a date.

Ok, here is the confusion. Something is not working right on your end I don't think.

The first method appears to work for me, but I am using 5.9.2 Beta 1 it seems so that may be why. Not sure entirely.
