Searching exact phrase: "[word]"

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am starting topic, which was discussed already (here).I am using inline tags in the text [inlineTag]. When I want to find this: "[inlineTag]" the engine returns same result as for "inlineTag". Anything new from last mentioned discussion?

I have roughly 2000 notes marked by this tagging [system]. Now I found, that it is useless…

If there is no possibility to find exact phrase containing brackets in Evernote, I could change the [] into something really searchable, but: Is there any Find / Replace function Which I can Apply to a bunch of notebooks? In a single note, the Ctrl + H launch the Find / Replace dialog, but it is just in note environment, not in Notebooks themselves.

Thank you in advance.

There's nothing new that isn't discussed in the thread you linked to.  Also there's no global find and replace,  though you could change the brackets to any other alpha character - "xWord" as example - to achieve your result.  Depending on your OS it may be possible to search through your database / note files and make changes using external software,  but that has a serious risk of generating additional unwanted results,  or corrupting your database.  A slow process of individual replacement may be your best option...

First, I would suggest next time, you do some due diligence & make sure something works the way you think it does, before committing thousands of notes to it & then finding out it doesn't work the way you thought it did.

Second, you can simply do a search on this exact phrase... (enclosed in quotes)

"inline tag"

...because it would find the notes that have [inline tag] in them.  That would either restrict the results to what you're looking for or at least narrow the results down.

Well, thank you both.

Using third program to change the db is a bit risky, but definitely the solution.

But trying whether something works before putting it in use is the best way — definitely! I got a nice lesson for future…

Thank you once again for your time…
