First time Evernote scared me

Recommended Posts

Ok as a relatively new consistent user to EN, I have always had it installed but never really got too far into it, I have always been impressed with the dependability of it.

Today I am scared for the first time ever though. I've been trying to become a more dedicated user of EN and trying different setups so I have been using the Windows app alongside the web version just so I can compare things more quickly. I noticed just now that a tag that I created recently is on my Windows app but not showing on the web version or my android app. The notes associated are there but not tagged properly.

I have sync'd/refreshed multiple times but this does not change the situation.

Also upon further examination there is a tag on the web and android that I deleted from the Windows app.

I mostly use the Windows app so that is the one I'm concerned with being accurate but I am fearful that at some point this will become an issue if the EN server is not correct for my account.

Any ideas what I may have done to make this happen? And how to correct it?

With anything electronic,  sometimes you get glitches;  the trick is to work around them.  There was an issue with tags not being synced properly some while ago,  but that was (allegedly) fixed.  This issue may just be with one errant tag,  and the fix may be - just delete it and recreate it.  Make sure you search for all the notes with that tag first,  then group tag with a temporary tag,  and search on that tag.  Delete the original tag in the left hand pane,  and then group retag your notes with the same one.  Sync again and check that the re-tagged notes show up in both your desktop and web accounts.

If your sync is successful but the tags still don't show up online,  go to Help > Activity Log in the desktop version and save the current log, and raise a support ticket. When you have a reference,  add the Activity log.

Remember Support works weekdays,  US Pacific Time and free users seem to have several days' wait at present before a real person can get back.  Expect to go through the same process all over again with Support just to make sure no steps were missed out...

This still happens to me occasionally too.  Usually after I've changed one or more existing (and assigned) tag names on my main Windows machine.

The way I'm minimizing the issue is right after I finished changing some tag names on my Windows box I'll do a search to make sure every tag in my database is assigned to one or more notes.  Then I'll log into Evernote web and run the same search on the cloud database.  As long it returns zero unassigned tags too I'm ok,  If not I'll have a little work to do on Evernote web by reassigning tags without notes, to their proper notes.

When you say "changed" you mean "renaming" an existing tag? Or do you mean "adding" and or "deleting" tags?

Renaming an existing tag that has notes assigned to it.  After I do that and sync, the cloud database sometimes "loses" the tags that I had changed the names of.  I have to recreate those tags on the cloud and then reassign notes to them (also on the cloud).

Thanks everyone. Deleted the tag then reassigned it and it seemed to work.

It just caught me off guard as I very rarely us the Web version so seeing this got me wondering if mismatched syncs were common and/or caused headaches when note counts got higher
