iniclof 0
HI, I have been using evernote for a little more than a month, and I really like it. I have been trying to find a way to filter out old notes. I checked the FAQ and the forum, but couldn't find a way to do it. Since I create a note for every thing that I investigate (purchase of a camera, software I am testing, etc) sometimes I have note that I no longer need to see every time, but don't want to delete. Looking for ways to do this, I came up with this:[1] Create a new notebook like the one I am using but only for old notes (this would create a lot of notebooks)[2] Apply a tag (for example, ARCHIVE) to old note, and filter that tag out (I cant find this option)[3] Hide those note (another option I cant find)Does anyone have a better method to do this? Thanks Link to comment
Level 5 jbenson2 2,149 Posted September 5, 2009 Level 5 Share Posted September 5, 2009 Try to keep the number of notebooks to a minimum and use the search feature instead. If you tag the notes with Archive, then hide the tagged notes with-tag:ArchiveOr you could use the Check Box feature. You could also filter out past notes using the subjectdateAssume you are narrowing your search to notes that contain the word CameraTo see just the last couple years of Camera notesCamera subjectdate:year-1To see just the last couple months of Camera notesCamera subjectdate:month-1To see just the last couple weeks of Camera notesCamera subjectdate:week-1 Link to comment
jmayson 10
Very helpful!I quickly filled my 500 MB monthly limit because I dumped everything into Evernote. But I started regretting it because of information overload. These tips do help or at least point me in the right direction.John Link to comment

I tried and worked just fine (I also saved that search to create something like the notebooks I use). What I don't know is what is the check box feature you mention..Thanks for your help!!! Level 5 jbenson2 2,149 Posted September 7, 2009 Level 5 Share Posted September 7, 2009 The check box option is not clearly promoted by Evernote. In Windows, you can mark any note with a check box by typing CTRL + SHFT + C (create check box)You can view open tasks by going to Attributes (on left side)- Contains- - Unfinished to-do items Link to comment
