rooshio 0 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I'm on windows 7, 64 bit. I know I can create shortcuts within evernote, but I want to link to specific notes directly from my OS: I'm trying to create a desktop shortcut that opens a specific note (my to-do list) in my local evernote client. Seems like it should be an easy drag and drop solution, right? I tried dragging a note from the list to my desktop; This successfully creates a shortcut (a *.enex file); however, the shortcut seems to be creating a duplicate note with the same name and content rather than opening the existing file. It creates a duplicate every time I click the shortcut. Similarly, I can right-click my to-do list and select "copy note link" and assign this URL to a manually-created desktop shortcut. However, it pulls ups the note in the browser. The browser note gives you the option to open the link directly in the client, but even this opens both the webpage and the client, forcing me to close Chrome each time. Simply put: I just want a desktop shortcut to open a note in my Evernote client... Am I missing something? this seems like it should be the most intuitive feature, especially since there are so many features aimed toward power users... Thanks in advance! -Josh
SebR 146 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 You can do it this way. You have to create a shorcut for whatever file and modify it this way : Take care, put you window username, and change the note title (in fact, this do a query search, that will display a list - I am not sure there's function to display only a note)
Sentinel 195 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Take a look at this: http://veritrope.com/tech/idea-scroll/It is not "exactly" what you spelled out above, however, I think it is one step closer and you may be able to make it work for you. This particular code is for a Mac, but they may have the code for a Windows as well.
Level 5* phils 220 Posted May 27, 2014 Level 5* Posted May 27, 2014 Similarly, I can right-click my to-do list and select "copy note link" and assign this URL to a manually-created desktop shortcut. One small change - hold down the CTRL key when you select "Copy Note Link". This will create an evernote:// link instead of an http:// link. The former will open the note directly in the EN client instead of your web browser which is what you want.
rooshio 0 Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Thanks for the quick replies all! Phils, that did the trick! how on earth did you know that?!
Level 5* phils 220 Posted May 27, 2014 Level 5* Posted May 27, 2014 It's actually something that just changed in the latest release of the Windows client. It's explained in a forum post here (along with a lot of probably justified grumbling about Evernote changing this behavior without warning).
