Tools such as the Alfred program launcher and the Dash documentation viewer use a "HUD" window style. This allows them to popup and disappear in a much more unobtrusive way than regular windows. They will display on whichever Space currently has focus (rather than jumping to whatever Space the open was originally opened in), and they can display over full screen windows in Mac OS. I think the Evernote client would benefit from a simple HUD mode, maybe just a window that had a search bar and viewer pane, so that notes could be easily accessed and viewed with minimal disturbance to whatever else the user is doing.
