bill77 7
I recently started using the current version of Evernote 5 (on Windows 7) after sticking with the last release of Evernote 4 up until 5 had a handful of updates. I'm not sure if this is a glitch, or an intended change (I hope not), but when I tried using my favorite feature - 'Copy Note Link', I was confused why it kept generating web-based Evernote.com links to the note instead of internal Evernote:// style links like I expected. Am I experiencing a glitch or did I miss the memo? Link to comment

You'd think something major like this would at least be in the Release Notes. The behavior now is to paste the external version (https) of the link when pasting into other apps. I hate this change. I use Copy Note Link almost every day to paste the internal link into apps like Outlook Calendar. Link to comment
logandb 224
I like internal links, too. Hold down [CTRL] when clicking on 'Copy Note Link...' to yield the traditional behaviour... Link to comment
bill77 7
Thanks for the link and the tip, I appreciate it. I didn't catch the thread when I searched for it, but I did only skim the titles of the search results. See http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/53834-evernote-for-windows-520-rc-a-much-better-sync/page-2#entry262886 In the Evernote for Windows client, if you select your note(s) and then hold down Ctrl then go up to the menu bar and select Notes >> Copy Note Links then you will always get old behavior. I agree, seems pretty major to be an afterthought to dig for a workaround, but at the same time I'm glad there is one. I don't understand the reasoning: Virtually every operating system knows how to deal with an https link (in case you don't have Evernote installed on that particular machine) and there is a way to add that note to your account or even request access to it if you don't have permission to view the note. Under the old system, users would run into various issues when pasting a note link outside of Evernote and we're trying to streamline that process. I always used an easy workaround for that issue (which only came up in special circumstances). If I wanted a link to be sharable outside of my personal Evernote bubble, I'd go to 'Share' and click "Copy Note URL to Clipboard" and would call it good. Not that the new (unwritten) workaround is a big deal, it's just a bit less straightforward if a person doesn't go digging around the forums. Having a visible sub-option (or even a tooltip) for "Copy Note Link" seems like a more natural bandaid to go with that sort of change. Apparently Evernote has made a change in the behavior of the "Copy Note Link" without providing us with any formal notice. Hold down [CTRL] when clicking on 'Copy Note Link...' to yield the traditional behaviour... I tried the CTRL trick and it works nice. Strangely every note I copy a link to is now defaulting to internal linkage, whether I hit CTRL again or not. Bizarre... but I'll take it! I missed the original discussion when I did a quick search, but I'll direct any of my followup commentary to the link Gaz posted. Thanks to all! Link to comment

I use Copy Note Link almost every day to paste the internal link into apps like Outlook Calendar. This is something I cannot understand with Evernote. It is not the first software on the planet to deal with the need to paste with different formats. Thouthands of others have done it before and there is a standard solution for it. Basically, programs copy to the clipboard in MULTIPLE formats, allowing the target of paste to choose the best supported format. It is also possible to register own format id with clipboard and copy with both, plain text http format and evernote-style link. When pasting to Evernote check for presence of evernote-style link in clipboard and paste it, otherwise paste regular URL. Other programs do not know about Evertnote clipboard type at all and will always paste the good old text (http). Why re-inventing a wheel? Holding Ctrl + go to menu and select Copy Note Link is an awful solution. Very un-intuitive and counterproductive. Link to comment

Foxbluff 0
I wasted a lot of time with this. It's an awful change. I like to use Evernote on my Galaxy Note and now it tries to to to a web site instead of just showing my note. t's a big problem and really slows everything down. Please change it back. Foxbluff 0
I'm not going to be able access my travel documents while I'm in Europe. How long has this been broken? I have to go back and find all the erroneous links. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 9,806 Posted April 16, 2014 Level 5* Share Posted April 16, 2014 Existing links won't be changed, just new ones will be https: instead of evernote: If you didn't notice the style difference, this could be any time in the past few months. As you see above there are options to select the correct type of link - on a desktop machine. No way to check links automatically (or AFAIK even to find them with a source: or resource: style search). You'd have to check each link to make sure it works correctly... Link to comment

Most of these comments are 3 years old and past their expiry date - we had about 20 updates in that time. What Evernote version are you using, and what exactly happens when you use the Ctrl+ link?
