Suggestions for quick capture from Safari

crispinb

Idea

For now I give up on the web clipper. It doesn't work, hasn't for months, and I am out of patience with it.

Does anyone know of a good alternative to quickly capture web (Safari) content? Perhaps a third-party tool or script? I only know of the PopClip extension, which works reasonably well, but I don't particularly like having Popclip enabled (and I would prefer to capture without having to reach for the mouse).

You could try File->Share->Email this page and send it to your Evernote email account.

Thanks for the suggestion -- but that's not quite up to my 'quick capture' standards. I mean quick: keystroke, BOOM.  That's what a ubiquitous capture tool needs.

Think you're setting the bar a little high.

I'm not at my mac at the moment but recall that in MacOS in the system preferences app you can assign your own keyboard shortcuts either globally or in a specific app.

For example we can use it to give keyboard shortcuts to menu items in Evernote for items that don't have one.

Or I'll change the close shortcut in safari to require a second modifier key so that I don't accidentally close it with command q when I meant to close a window with command w.

If email this page is it's own menu item you can assign a shortcut to it.

You could likely fully automate it using an Automator script.

Rather than roll your own here's some things in the neighbourhood.

Quick capture for an 'everything bucket', on 2014 hardware? I can't see it's that big an ask. Evernote folks clearly think it's needed, hence the web clipper. Unfortunately they haven't been able to get it working, for whatever reasons.

Thanks - I'll have a look at that.
