Please Don't Solicit for New EN Customers on Business & Premium Shared Links...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

We're using Evernote Business (EB) not just internally but for our customers as well.

Today EB is still fresh and new, lot's of room for growth and improvement... so much potential. Today is where we stand... as EB matures a step forward could be something like supporitng lightweight branding (customer logo and background colors only) for EB cusomters looking to use EB for their customers (like we're doing).

However, when I see my customers getting solicited to sign up for EN using shared links from paid for EB and Premium accounts, it seems like an unfortunate mis-step backwards IMO.

If you would consider disabling this on links shared by EB & Premium, that would be great. There are different versions depending on the browser one is using, but below is what I took a screenshot of.

I'm fine if you wanted to leave as is for free accounts, and I'm also fine with having a subtle "Sign up for a free account" link under the Evernote logo in the top left (or something like that), but the end user experience of having customers having to first figure out how to get rid of the prompt before they can look at what we've sent them is driving us crazy, and frustrating our end user community, most of whom aren't your typical "at-least-somewhat-saavy" Evernote user. Having to manage this new "end-user experience" also costs time and frustration on our side of the fence as well.

Thanks for considering!

I've drastically reduced my use of shared notes because of this. I was quite disappointed to see yet another popup appear in the service. I strongly recommend that Evernote re-think these "informative" features, because they are not making a positive contribution to the user experience, and they are certainly not doing anything to "simplify" it! It's a great service, so why use the same tactics that unsavory Internet scams and porn sites use?

Like the OP, I'm fine with some more subtle advertising, and I actually would like that to stay there, because I would like other people to sign up and enjoy the benefits of having an account. As a workaround (of sorts), you can email notes to people.

I hope that screenshot is from Premium and not Business.

When I share something from my Box.com business account, it's our Company name and logo that's front and center, not Box's.

And yes, there should not be a modal dialog over content on a paid account.

And I'm annoyed to see it at all.

It takes Evernote into the realm of adware/foistware.

The primary point of a share is to share information, not gain new customers.

We could debate wether that should or shouldn't be a more subtle secondary role, but when it's foreground and primary, there shouldn't be any debate.

This move, conveys a message that Evernote is either short on funds or long on Investor pressure.

Shame on you Evernote.

Premium (paying) users are shelving "sharing" due to your marketing shenanigans.

I thought your people were more professional than this.

Bad move, guys!
