jacksnack 9 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I think Phil has taken to heart the words of the blogger. But encryption os still a huge issue with me, and many others. EN business and personal users won't store sensitive data on EN server. Please give us this ability. My premium account is now month to month...and will be watching closely the direction of Evernote.

My premium account is now month to month...and will be watching closely the direction of Evernote. We currently have the ability to encrypt text, though we can only do blocks of text in a note, it is only available on the desktop versions of the app, and it is rather low level. It is not very strong, and I wouldn't recommend it for any truly sensitive or confidential information. http://evernote.com/contact/support/kb/#/article/23480996 We can upload encrypted files into Evernote, and I highly recommend users encrypt their files if they have software that can do it. For example, Adobe Acrobat Pro will encrypt a PDF file up to 256-bit. I think Phil intends to introduce new, "sexy" encryption capabilities. He hinted that they would be coming last year, so perhaps we will see them soon. http://techcrunch.com/2013/08/07/foundation-evernotes-phil-libin-on-building-a-hundred-year-old-startup/ I don't know what they will be, but my hope is for encryption at the notebook level (doing it one block of text at a time in an account with tens of thousands of notes is not feasible), it will be zero-knowledge (no one has the password but the user), and at least 256-bit encryption.
jacksnack 9 Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Hi Grumpy... I am aware of the recent posts / comments / and podcasts Phil has made. I thought we would see something by the end of the year. Until then, I am month to month and planning an exit strategy. I am also hoping for zero-knowledge. Blowfish is a nice alternative to AES, and possibly more secure (NSA).

I am no expert in the field, but I hope that Evernote is calling them in and designing for a professional-level user. Anything less, for me, at least, won't be very sexy
jacksnack 9 Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Yes, Blowfish seems to be less popular, therefore, my guess is it would not be as attractive to the NSA. ...too much time for something not widely implemented. AES (Rijndael) on the other hand...
dnov 1 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Well, 3.5 months after the given deadline, are there any updates on notebook-level encryption? I hope Evernote didn't scrap it.

I hope Evernote didn't scrap it. I don't know if Evernote was ever planning notebook-level encryption in the first place. This is, of course, my hope. However, all we know is that Evernote began talking about implementing "sexy" encryption in 2013.
