Create Note WEBLINK (not note-to-note link)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm curious about how to reliably generate a web link for a note.

All I can find on this topic are forum entries about note-to-note links in the Evernote app.

I learned a long time ago, that each of your EN notes can have a unique URL generated for it

that you can access on the web. I think I encountered this just using the web interface,

and saving URLs.

Also, if you have EN search enabled for during web browsing, you've seen your own notes

appear as google search results.

If you have clicked on one of your own notes, you will see your note as web page, and also

see its unique and saveable URL address.

-----------------

My Question :

Is there a way to just generate the URL right there in the EN app ?

-----------------

I spend a decent amount of time just crafting a single EN, and would like to be able to

then dump that URL into a folder on my desktop, so that I can just bring up the entire

note on the web.

I don't want the megs of the EN in the folder. Just the 1k URL link.

It's more than a little inconvenient to have to craft a note in the EN app, and then, to capture

its URL have to either open a web interface and log into EN on the web, or try to do

a google search with terms unique enough to isolate just the note I am looking for.

Thanks for reading. / Please advise.

Click the sharing icon for the desired not and share it publically. Evernote will automatically copy the specific URL to your clipboard.

All your Evernote notes are stored on your hard drive already anyway, dumping the URL into a folder on your desktop is not going to save you any space and will just add confusion.

If you are looking to avoid occupying space on your hard drive, then uninstall the Evernote app and work exclusively from the web version in your browser. You can still follow the same sharing procedure as above using the web interface, and dump the URLs to a local folder.

It isn't clear to me why you'd want to do this though!

Hi, Scott.

Thanks for replying. Tried the :

Share -> Copy note URL to clipboard.

Seems to work.

Had some trouble with the note

staying viewable.

It's like the first one timed-out,

link became dead. Tried again, 2nd

one seems to be working.

I'll keep an eye on it.

(answer to "Why do this  ?" . . .)

I have an elaborate (non-EN) folder structure of issue tickets for my job.
We are keeping all specific client info out of EN, so what I do is link my
work side knowledge bases to my support notebook at EN.
Now when I look up user issue 123456 in the work folder structure or in
old work email I find a txt file that says, "link to Evernote". Open the text
file or email, and see a persistent link to the EN I composed for their
requirements and info.
Nothing on the EN side links to my end user client's info.
Now with one plain little link, 1k in size, I have access to all the
pdf's, docs, diagrams, and info I so meticulously collect, no matter
which device I'm on .

Thanks for the tip.,

I consider this discussion answered.

I am glad that you have been able to resolve your workflow issue.

However:

One of your hopes, according to your original post, was to save hard drive space. As long as the Evernote application is installed on your computer, the data are also stored on your hard drive, so you have not saved any hard drive space.

Right but at least now all those juicy files aren't duplicated on the "elaborate (non-EN) folder structure of issue tickets for my job."

or in my enterprise email acct. Also, doesn't have to be backed up on my (non-Evernote) android phone. I just need the weblink.

Thanks again.
