Unwanted conversion from tiff to png

frans

Idea

I have several notes with tiff-files stored in evernote. Evernote can not display tiff's. That's ok, it's just a store. You see a box with three icons. What is not okay is that when you hover with your mouse over the left most icon you see a pop-up displaying: press ctrl-click to view options. Since there is no clue as to what this does and I want to know I ctrl-click. What you expect to see is a menu. Instead when you do so the tiff disappears and I'm left with a png three times the size of the tiff. Aaaargggh. The original tiff is gone. No undo possible. Data gone. Very very very very bad.

So what's going on. Could not find anything on google or on the forum. Or in the log file for that matter. No mention of conversion. You only see the unwanted png appear. But where is my tiff-original? Does anybody have a clue?

I downloaded the original from the evernote cloud. Lucky i'm premium user. But I still don not like automated conversions which destroy original data. How do I get rid of this unwanted behavior? What is going on.

I tried outside to replicate this outside evernote. Maybe an unwanted link as in "open with". But I could not find anything. So I think evernote is the problem.

I can’t reproduce this. When I ctrl-click on a .tiff I get a context menu with the following options: Open, Open With, Quick Look, Save As and Rename Attachment.

What versions of MacOS and Evernote are you using?

I'm using OSX 10.9 on a macbook pro with a touchpad set to react on gestures.  And I just checkd with a mouse. If I use a mouse it works fine and I see the menu. If I use the touchpad it does the conversion. Regardless of where you touch the touchpad, left or right.

Sometimes it opens a kind of editor with only icons. No name no text, again clueless as to what it should do before you do something. When you close using X you have the dreaded PNG with three times the size of the tiff. Tiff is gone.

I guess what I see is an annotation editor. (Which proves quite destructive. No undo, no explanation, no text, not very ergonomic, who thought of that? :-() Maybe you should not annotate what you can't display? E.g. Tiff-files?

If you double click the Tiff-file you get the same result. It changes to png and the original is gone.

Just did another test. I purposely used the mouse and said I would like to annotate a tiff file.  The annotation editor is opened. I fiddle about and now when I close the editor it says, mind you I does not give me a choice, "the tiff file is deleted. Maybe it's open in another program blah blah." (This is translated back to english) Which ..... did think of this? Anontate means unwanted conversion and destruction of data I put in.

What I want above all that evernote does not change the data I put in, never, ever. If it does it means the software is unreliable because you can not tell in advance when it does change data and when it does not. When you do find out it's too late. Copy and expand yes, but no DELETE. This for me would be a reason not to renew my account.

So please tell I'm just akward?
