Web Clipper 6 for Safari - BETA

Hi all,

We have a beta version of Web Clipper 6 for Safari that we'd like to open up for testing. Please remember that:

1) Beta versions will not receive auto updates so please remember to re-install the production version once a new version comes out. The latest production version is always available from: http://evernote.com/webclipper/

2) When reporting issues or feedback remember to post:

- OS version number
- Safari version number
- URL where issue happens
- Description of steps to reproduce it.

- If you're tech minded feel free to send logs to me in a PM, JSConsole and Web Clipper internal logs are usually most useful to us.

UPDATE - This has now been released as Web Clipper 6.0.3

Any update on this? I updated my WebClipper to version 6.0.6, and I still get the following errors:

Minor annoyance. I build websites—as I’m sure a lot of other Evernote users do as well—and it makes it difficult to isolate which console logs/errors are in my code, and which are in yours. I know you guys are probably swamped… a month is just a long time to take a minor hit on development productivity.

P.s. big fan of the new clipper’s design and implementation other than these “benign” errors!

- I click on the button and nothing happens. The first time I clicked on the button, it asked me to log in, but since then, nothing. I've restarted safari, uninstalled and reinstalled, no change.

The console errors ending in /locales/xxx/messages.json are benign and doesn't say anything about the functionality in the Clipper. I'll see if I can get a more developer friendly reply within short.

I am also getting a lot of errors in the webkit console from evernote clipper. Any idea what these are?

A couple of questions...

The keyboard nav seems to work more consistently in this version. However, if I hit tags, type in a few tags...how do i get to save (sans mouse)?
Is there any way to keep all of the evernote web stuff (json,css, etc) out of the inspector in safari and chrome? There is a significant amount of fetch. Perhaps a disable it when the inspector is open? Or, provide a manual switch to temporarily disable?

Hi all,

We have a new beta version 6.0.5 that aims to fix 2 things:

1) The CSS conflict issues where random UI elements from the Web Clipper pops up on certain pages.

2) Disabling keyboard shortcuts fix

We'd appreciate if you have some time to test it and if you can report back if it fixes the issue you had.

When this happens are you already logged in to the Web Clipper?
Are you prevented from logging in to the www.wcl site?

Thanks for the response and looking in to it. I am already logged into the web clipper when visiting that page. It works normal and allows me to log in, but once I log in the page loads with the Evernote clipper open, as shown. The webpage itself is then entirely unresponsive.

I hate the new clipper; in particular the keyboard shortcuts are causing me grief.

I use '~' quite frequently online in Safari, and so every time I enter a ~, the clipper pops up; stealing focus, etc.
I've tried disabling keyboard shortcuts, to no avail. Updated to 6.0.4 today which didn't help things either.

In particular, I'd love some custom keyboard shortcuts, but in the meantime, I'd love if I could just turn off the keyboard shortcuts so I could type my tildes without having my focus stolen or seeing the clipper appear.

We confirm the same thing in our testing so the 6.0.4 patch release did not catch all of the cases where the CSS conflicts. Best suggestion I have is to leave it disabled until we push out a new update which is our #1 priority at the moment.

Here's the problem I'm having...

Evernote Web Clipper 6.0.4

Safari Version 7.0 (9537.71)

Here's what it looks like when I go to join.me and some other sites...it completely blocks the page out and I can't figure out how to get around it. Cancel button doesn't work. Share button doesn't work. None of the other visible buttons work. Clicking away from the box doesn't work. Uninstalling web clipper works. Reinstalling web clipper generates the same thing. See screenshot with timestamp 10.47.29.

When I uncheck the "enable web clipper" box in safari preferences that little-box-from-hell consumes the entire browser window (see second attached image timestamp 10.53.05).

Then after I refresh the web page loads fine.

Any solutions besides uninstalling/turning-off web clipper?

This may not be very helpful, but whenever I log into this website utilized by my medical school the web clipper opens up multiple aspects of its interface (account window, new note, etc.) and freezes the webpage. May not be something you can look at because it only happens when you log in.

Thx jbignert. Got it up and running. Ill send ya logs if I run into any issues.

MissDune. Just click on the link that jbignert posted. I'm assuming your using a mac since your using safari. It should download to your downloads folder. Just click on the extension and safari will ask if you want to install it. Click yes. Then quit safari and restart it. For me, it overrode my previous 5.9 extension so there shouldn't be anything else you need to do. Click on evernote extension after you start up safari, it should be to the left of the address bar. It'll go through a brief tutorial. Click again and it'll ask for your login. If you have an authenticator, it'll then ask for that and then your in.

Btw, this is the beta. If you are just getting started using evernote, I would suggest you use the latest stable version which is at http://evernote.com/webclipper/ Installation for this one is the same.

What are the steps to downloading the Beta version using Safari desktop? Sorry, this is new to me and I've spent half hour just trying to make your Clipper work. I just downloaded Evernote for the first time today and was eager to get started. Extremely disappointing to find a broken web clipper and this workaround that I have not been able to make work. About to dump Evernote entirely.

Help would be appreciated.

You need to download from www.evernote.com/webclipper using Safari desktop.

That is our production version and then we have a new version coming soon.

Web Clipper works the same way for free, premium and business users. It supports Safari desktop (extensions are not allowed on Safari iOS).
