(Archived) Evernote syncing: Better to let it sync itself or manually sync?

Is it better to let evernote sync itself every 5 min as I work or manually sync it myself?  Mac snow leopard and  Evernote 5.1.4....yes afraid to update because every time I do, something goes haywire.  Normally all has been working well.

Most of the time, I just let Evernote sync itself (Windows client, in my case). I might do an initial sync when I start up my Android client, because I want any modified notes that live in my offline notes to be synced down, but that's a special case.
