Skitch iOS 3.0.2 has been released

Joe Lopez

Idea

This version is busy making its way into the App store and should be available anytime in the next 30 minutes to 2 hours (depends upon how fast Apple updates the stores).

Skitch iOS 3.0.2 version contains the following:

  • Fix for new photos not showing!
  • Changes to camera roll picker screen. It is now fixed to the camera roll (showing most recent images). We added an option to use a full photo picker if you want older photos.
  • Added the ability to auto-save all annotated images to Evernote. Can be found in settings and during login.
  • An option has been added to Settings to let you pick what calendars to use for the Meetings feature.
  • Fixed a bunch of bugs

Hope you enjoy the update.

Thank you for the information Joe,

Can we expect a similar information for the new Evernote iOS version? I would like that.

@ODiN - Can you share the following with us, as we are not seeing these issues:

  • Device model (iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, iPad (Version))
  • iOS version number (7, 7.0.1; 7.0.2)
  • Can you confirm by going to App Store->Updates that Skitch is listed as an updated app (sometimes apps don't auto-update)
  • Is this a photo taken with the camera or an image from your device?
    • If from your device is it from your camera roll, screenshot, copy & paste?
    • If it is not a camera shot is it a very large or very small image?
  • Exactly what are your steps you're taking? (ex: Launch->Use camera to take a snap->Move default arrow-> Tap "Add caption" etc
  • For the Cancel button are you seeing it in the top left, or do you mean as part of the list menu that pops up?

This information will help us try and figure out the issue. We test with all iPhone models and this is not an issue we've seen.

  1. Is the intention of the app that you must share with something before it appears in Evernote ie just taking the photo and annotating it won't auto save it to evernote?

Is there a way you can reduce the file size t0 be loaded to evernote. IE they usually range from 3 - 5 MB. can it be resized on a iPhone pr through evernote / skitch settings

How can you edit a skitch file made on iPhone after it is sent to Evernote? if it can't is there a plan to allow it?

At this time yes, which is very similar to the way Skitch iOS worked. It would only save if you too an explicit Save action or invoked a share method that triggered a Save. We are looking at a change that would auto-save on invoking the Share sheet or prompt you to save when you tap New/Retake.

This is a side effect of making every image a Skitch rich image so they can be annotated again. We're looking at a way to differentiate between the source being a JPG and PNG and then saving a rich version of that file type instead. So when the source is a JPG (ex: Camera) then the image would be a Skitch rich JPG instead and would be much smaller. PNGs are lossless so they are much bigger by default.

You can do this today. Any image saved to Evernote can be re-annotated via either of these methods:

  • Evernote Mac, Android, and iOS (and soon Windows) contain the full suite of Skitch Markup tools inside them. You can select your image in any of these clients and then invoke the Markup function to continue to annotate.
  • Or you can open up the image directly into Skitch and re-annotate that way. Each OS uses a different method for doing this (ex: Mac you can right click and select "Open with") or you can use Copy & Paste, or if on the Mac (and soon Windows) you can drag and drop the image onto Skitch.
    • You can also do this same action by Emailing the image to yourself, or saving it to your camera roll and importing it to your Mac, etc. So long as no app compresses the image (or loses the Skitch rich data) you can distribute and re-annotate.
