2 things to note especially:

 

Putting shortcuts in the left panel means we can see less of our notebook list. The key way many (most?) of us organize and find our stuff is by notebooks. The more scrolling needed to get to the stack or notebook, the harder it is to get to our info. Please, move the shortcuts. There's plenty of real estate up top. (ALSO, we would benefit a great deal to be able to control to font size and/or whitespace of the items listed on the left panel, so we can choose to see more at a glance.)

 

Second: Why on Earth can't I have list view of notes with the note panel on the right? Other than note name, I rarely use the info in the other other columns of the note list and can scroll that panel if i need it. Meanwhile, with the note panel underneath all that mostly less-important horizontal space I see needlessly little of my note.

 

(Also, while I'm here: I often paste into a note and sometimes the editor cursor jumps up to the top of the note and then the paste for some reason can't be undone. Hope that's a known problem.)

Hit Ctrl+Shift+F5 until you hit the configuration you are seeking...

This has been pointed out by others as well.  Users who have a lot of notebooks now have to scroll all over the place to get to the notebooks they want to get to.  And in the meantime, the shortcuts are no longer shortcuts, because they are not always visible.

That's great! Since the functionality is there is would be great to expose it in the menus, like a "customize layout" menu/options setting and dialog box.
