DRZ Charlie 0 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Hi, This is my first post here and I am a new Ever Note user. I think this is going to be a very good tool for web clipping my research then organizing my research into study guides. However, I am having a hard time figuring out how to organize my notebooks. For instance ( I am a History major) if I am studying Ancient China I want a heading of "Ancient China". If I am studying the Han Dynasty I want a notebook nested under Ancient China. If I am studying Confucianism during the Han Dynasty I would like a sub folder. How do I do this without pulling my remaining hair out? Secondly, If I am web clipping how do I insure that the clip goes to the appropriate folder? Thus far it will go into my Ancient China folder and then I have to drag it where I want it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. Hi. Welcome to the forums. My solution is a little radical, but it gets the job done without the loss of hair. I don't use notebooks. http://www.christopher-mayo.com/?p=367 You can see my organization schemes for classes and research journals here. http://www.christopher-mayo.com/?p=51 The application is nvAlt, but the organizational principles are the same: An "index" (table of contents) linking to all of the classes instead of a folder/notebook system. If you want to know how to make a table of contents in Evernote, see the screencasts here: http://www.christopher-mayo.com/?p=488 As for clippings, they go in the same notebook/folder, but because they have the word "clip" in the title, a search for intitle:clip will show everything I have clipped. If you do a lot of clippings, it might not hurt to put the class number in the title as well so that you can make sure that only the clippings relevant to the class appear. Of course, there are people that make heavy use of notebooks and tags. Here are some ideas: http://www.christopher-mayo.com/?p=437
