(Archived) Highlighting text with keyboard cannot be styled

When using a keyboard dock on my TF300, I can highlight text using shift-cursor key. But this, apparently, is not good enough to allow me to apply styles (bold, italic, etc.). Instead I must double-click and drag the selector handles around, which is a pain with the trackpad on the keyboard dock.

Could you possibly allow text highlighted in this way in the android app to be styled?
