gawnfishin 0 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Using an iPad 3, how can I open a pdf sent as an email attachment in penultimate to annotate. I can get it to Evernote but not penultimate.
Bardolobo 14 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Sadly, as far as I know, there is no way to do it.
vurtual 13 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 You can screenshot it and use it as a paper, but it's not great because penultimate fades the original. This is a sorely missing feature.
student 0 Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 You can convert the pdf file into a jpg file and then insert each of the pages into penultimate. Try pdf2jpg.net.
Miguel T. Mendes 1 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Hi, I'm using Evernote since I bought my iPad. I tested Penultimate but I'm using Goodnotes because I need to take notes on pdf files. I want to quit using Goodnotes and get back to Penultimate since I want to have my handwritten notes synced to Evernote. Can you please develop this feature?????? Thanks
PhilFromFrance 3 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Another testimonial to this subject. This is one of the major features that is missing in Penultimate.I want to be able to open PDFs from anywhere in iOS straight into Penultimate, and then sketch anything in it. I would use this to annotate and to sign documents. Note: I am very much in favor of integration, vs. multiple applications for different purposes. I will not bother using Evernote for storing, SketchIT to annotate and penultimate for handwriting. Penultimate + Evernote already has the most advanced set of features, I would love to see the missing features added to them only. This function as well as the paper rotation (see thread on this topic) and a zoom window (or any smart solution improving the zoom mode) would make Penultimate THE best nite taking app. And would kill any doubt about switching to competing applications. Thanks to the EN team for the good work.
risunokairu 0 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 You can't do it in Penultimate because they sell it as a feature in the Evernote Premium version of Skitch.
PhilFromFrance 3 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 The pricing is one thing. I may consider paying a fee for quality products. The distribution of features across separate apps vs. the integration of all features in one same app is a different matter. If find it too cumbersome to switch from app to app.
phipum 0 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 same here. It would be great to annotate pdfs in penultimate or skitch by hand, I don't care which program, but it would of added value. Philipp
RobA 0 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Add me to the list of people requesting this. I take notes on my ipad with a stylus, and on paper, often on the same topic. In the past I have scanned my paper notes and inserted them into the ipad notebook (using Notability). That way I have a consolidated set of notes on a topic in whatever form they were originally created. I appears that Penultimate lets you export pdfs, but not import them. This is the principal reason I am still using Notability and not Penultimate.
bifterX 0 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Ill join this club - I'm using a kludge of noteshelf to annotate and sign things then export to evernote. But amending this annotated version and vice versa is very kludgy.
SidJ 0 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Absolutely essential feature - completely agreed.Evernote/Penultimate devs : can we please have a way to annotate PPT and PDFs in Penultimate?
zirinisp 0 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Essential feature for me too. I try to annotate pdf with the evernote "a" button on the top of my iPad and the experience is no where near penultimate. It is unusable. I am premium by the way as i value evernote as a great tool, but would like to see that feature added.
stocky2605 403 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Still not possible - annotate in Evernote is not a valid option, I want to use handwritten ink in Penultimate. Please, implement this finally - all other note taking apps already have the feature. Thank you.
Katie Topchishvili 0 Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 +1 to this discussion. I need the pdf annotation in penultimate for my studies, when i have to practice writing something. and doing it in Evernote doesn't feel the same. Please add this feature. Thank you.
Spencer Hanley 1 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Agree. This is the most frustrating thing about Evernote. I want to use my apple pencil to write on top of a PDF, but I don't want to sit down and take a photo of every page and paste it into penultimate. If they don't get a drawing over pdf feature soon, I may dump them and find something better.
drybone 2 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Please add annotate PDF support or purchase the Goodnotes App and dump penultimate, its really lacking and Evernote deserves better.
Nils.F 0 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 +100 for this feature - would be an absolute killer. Have a 9.7" ipad pro with pencil and look into ways of making it my travel companion rather than carrying a laptop around with me, and data isolated in app silos is the biggest challenge here - evernote has a great potential to pool and sync all relevant data, and penultimate is my favourite note taking app already.
chaffinr05 13 Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Why hasn't this feature been implemented yet? Why can I not use my Apple pencil to annotate onto PDF's in penultimate!!!
Asya 0 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Plus One. It has been a year and people are still asking...
Rico Büttner 0 Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Plus one here. PDFs in Penultimate, please!
Deanoismyname 1 Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 How come I don't see any devs or moderators in here to help? Is that only in the other forum?
Chris Setlock 1 Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Add me to the list. I'd like very much to use penultimate to fill out .pdf forms and Evernote to store them.
Felipe Cattani 1 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Also having the same problem. I had been using NotesPlus (the paid version, wich doesn't cost much). It might solve your problems until someone from Evernote/Penultimate read their discussion board and give us any reply. I'm listing the reasons why I'm still with NotesPlus: It produces neat notes Provides the approximation writing (zoom) AND move the writing box automatically Offers palm rejection when using approximation writing box (so people don't need to have a Bluetooth stylus), Lots of pen styles, colors (+ opacity), Easily import and export pdf notes/documents without limit for the number of pages. Also very easy to get pdfs from your google drive with the app. I download pdf books and read them with the app so I can take notes and highlight things very easy (including exporting just the pages I want to my peers) Downside: Hurts the iPad performance, it gets slow when you start having a lot of notes. Not a lot of improvements Hope this provides some help to the users, and maybe some nice ideas for improvements to Evernote/Penultimate.
UriCai 5 Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 Okay, so i worked on it a bit and found out that the problem is with the proprietary filetype of penultimate, which does not support PDF's until today. Sorry folks, you're not going to find it anytime soon. Also, I want to say, support for apple pencil in the app is really bad. Penultimate's team have a lot of potential, you can see through the app, but it seems to me EN is stalling that potential.
laurencelewis 0 Posted April 6, 2017 Posted April 6, 2017 Just started with Evernote and penultimate iOS. There is no function for note merging and sorting and no possibility of annotating pdfs despite people asking for this for years. Bye bye Evernote.

Cfett 0 Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 +1 Love Evernote. Love Penultimate. NEED to be able to annotate pdfs seamlessly while syncing to Evernote.
AMOS BLACK 0 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Add me: Critical to annotate PDF files ASAP with an easy way to load them into penultimate!!!!!!!!!!
mwrob 7 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Yes, this is important to me as well. I can do with pdf expert or Noteshelf but would prefer to do with Penultimate so I don’t need the extra apps.
Randen Montalvo 9 Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Guys Evernote gave up on Penultimate, check the update dates. The thing is dated outclassed by every other apple pencil application. Sadly they just don't seem to care about thats why it hasn't ben updated with features the community wants. I say abandon it and include the entire feature set into EN since penultimate by itself is just like using a a 5 year old piece of software with one good thing about it which is EN sync.

Yes it appears that way. This is unfortunate because Penultimate wouldn't take that much work to make it really useful. I'm currently using Noteshelf since it syncs with Evernote. Noteshelf's features are great but I don't like it's organizational structure. You have to remember to designate a notebook for syncing when creating and whole notebooks sync as individual notes in Evernote.
BrightHomesRE 31 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 PDF annotation in EN would be fantastic. I have been using PDF Expert for years to accomplish the task.
