Location Aware Reminder feature request

Recommended Posts

Evernote has built-in attribute of location where a note is created.  Also Evernote has reminder feature which is replacing the traditional calendar on many's smart phones.

It might be even greater to go one step further to combine both to a Location-Aware-Reminder.

For example, I go to COSTCO every weekend for groceries.  I expect a feature works this way.

1.  I create a wish list at home.  In the location attribute, I manually enters a location (info may grabbed from Google Earth by user manually).  It is better to have a custom list of point-of-interest.

2.  I add a reminder to the note, say 10am on Saturday.

Then all set.  How I expect EN to work is

1.  Anytime if I happen closely enough to COSTCO, (within 1KM, or whatever), the reminder pops up to reminder me I have something to do at this location.

2.  If the real-time location monitoring is too complex, I expect EN provides a feature to sort reminder based on location.  In this case, I may forget I have plan to COSTCO.  But I happen to check my EN and sort the reminders by location.  EN figures out COSTCO is the closest location currently and it says "Hey, you have a plan to go COSTCO which is close by.  You may want to go there now".

I believe this feature would greatly improve our daily life and makes us more efficient.  Moreover, it avoids a lot driving which helps to protect our earth by less emission.

Thanks for the suggestion: a member of the development team will see it here - although you won't see any confirmation of whether (or if) it's in the roadmap for future development.  :)

Google Keep added a location reminder feature earlier this year.

I find Google Keep leaner and faster for my smart phone than Evernote.

Evernote is for my big, clunky, stuck at home, desktop computer.

Yes please.  I came here to the forum with the intent of asking for this feature.  When I walk into the doctor's office it would be nice to have a reminder about what to talk about and so fourth.  Same with shopping; I've walked away from IKEA way too many times forgetting that I had a whole list of stuff to pick up.  Thanks guys,  Evernote is a really amazing product.

UPDATE:  Just tried the Google Keep version of that and it does exactly what I'm talking about.  Just copy that feature from Keep and we're golden.

As an idea for another workaround:

Using the built-in iOS reminders app which has location-based reminders:

For any given Evernote note that needs a location-based reminder, copy the Note link (the evernote:/// link, not the http:// link), paste it into the Reminders app, and set a location reminder for that.

When you trigger the geofence, the reminder pops up, you can click your evernote:/// link, and you'll be taken to that note.

Living in an android environment, I would also enjoy this feature veeery much!

Right now I use Google Now for stuff like this, but I'd like to keep everything in one application.

In addition to ScottLougheed's post above, I found an app called "WHEREvernote", which works on iOS and Android. Anyone tried it yet? It only has ~25 ratings on Google Play, that's what makes me a bit sceptical.

Hi and welcome to the forums. However,  this is an iOS thread.  If you want to raise queries about other OS's or random software,  please do so in the appropriate thread.

Hi,

I'm the co-founder of IdeaPlaces for Evernote, an iOS app that links you notes with the places you visit.

One of the feature of the app are the location based reminders for Arrival and Departure,

You can for example use IdeaPlaces for your shopping lists. Remind me to buy ... when I get to COSTCO

or you can use it during your travel to get notified of the right note as soon as you get there.

You can read all the features of the app here: https://discussion.evernote.com/topic/60737-ideaplaces-a-new-way-to-explore-and-use-evernote/

or from the AppStore https://itunes.apple.com/app/id835446337?mt=8

Kind regards,
