(Archived) Templates for Sales People

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to create a custom template inside Evernote?

As a salesperson I ask questions on their IT environment and it would be amazing if I can have a template that I can select which type of servers they have such as HP, Dell, IBM etc

Other fields would be Virtualization, Storage, Security etc :)

I have been using Livescribe as well and want to create a template there that just transfers over to Evernote

Another forum member, Zack, recently asked a similar question. Here was my suggestion...

I also work in sales and use Evernote for everything pretty much. I'm a Mac user and use a tool called TextExpander (on Windows there isPhraseExpander). This allows you to type a pre-defined series of keystrokes (e.g. "phc" for phone call) followed by a space and it will expand that to whatever text you want. So for instance...

Name : _

Position:

Company :

Phone :

email :

Date :

Notes :

Next action...

- Who? :

- What? :

- When? :

You can also tell it where to put the cursor when it produces the text so you can put it in the top field (here next to Name:)

This is a really fast and easy way to generate templates in Evernote, or any other tool for that matter. I also use it in prospecting emails where there are chunks of text that I often use, but I want to customise the email and don't just want a "boilerplate" email. I also use it for email sigs because I work on contract for a number of clients, so have different email sigs depending on which client I'm representing that day!

I have found this tip on your blog recently and it works just fine. So Jason, go ahead, use text expander. For my mobile devices I always hold a blank copy of my templates for quick use. If I m not in a rush, I use either the TextExpander App for iOS or the built in TextExpander in iOS 7. It works just fine.

The Evernote table capability is not very powerful, but I use it as a phone template to record my phone calls. I copy the template to a new note and then fill it it. Here is what it looks like.

I made a stab at making a filled-in Sales Contact template based on the fields mentioned above. There are probably better programs for storing this information, but most of them are either expensive or considerably more complicated.

Jason, I have had the best success using MS Word to design a form using a Table in Word.

Then, copy only the TABLE (not the Word doc) from Word to an EN Note, that I will use as a "template".

You can of course, add any EN Tags that you want to always be associated with use of this template.

I store all my EN "templates" in a NB named "Templates".

When I want to use a template, I simply copy the Note from the Templates NB to the target NB.

HTH.
