Outlook "add to evernote" as an .eml attachment?

Hello -- I have been using Outlook for a few years to store information and notes permanently, but am starting to use it as a "Getting Things Done" -- or GTD -- tool. What I'm doing is sending emails to Outlook and marking them as "action", "waiting for", etc. Then when I have taken the necessary action, I often need to reply to the original email. This requires me to go back to Outlook and find the email (which I have hopefully remembered to file under "Evernote") and reply. What I'd prefer to do is when I send the email to Evernote, it is sent as an .eml attachment so that right in Evernote I can click the email, open it, and reply from there. 

 

I know there are some workarounds such as saving the message and attaching it to a note, but I do this dozens of times a day and would like to make it as simple as possible. I've tried dragging the email into the note and it doesn't paste as an attachment.

 

Does anyone know if it's possible to quickly add an email to Evernote as an attachment?

If you're on a reasonably modern version of Outlook you should be able to choose an Evernote email clipper to create a text copy of a mail as a new note (select a bunch of emails to get a similar number of notes) - or I drag and drop emails into Evernote,  but through the wonders of Windows that only works if you drag/drop to your desktop and then from there to a note.

Thank you, gazumped! I definitely want to make the notes with the email as an attachment (not just the text in the note) and your suggestion of dragging to the desktop then to Evernote worked. It's clumsy, but it works, thank you!

FYI...You could put a shortcut to an Evernote import folder on your desktop and just drag them there. One less step.

I pride myself on lateral thinking (that's more often thinking,  while horizontal than the de Bono version) but I hadn't thought of that one.  Good tip!

I add Save As to the Outlook quick access toolbar and make it the first entry so if I need the EML file I press ALT+1 in Outlook, Select my evernote import folder that I have added to my favorite folders in Windows Explorer, and then hit enter.

 

This drops it to evernote and as soon as I see the popup for the imported note I click it and add the tags that I need to the note. If I have already clipped the email through the outlook web clipper then I will merge the text based and eml based version into one note.
