(Archived) FEATURE REQUEST: Better searching.

Idea

Evernote has been immensely helpful while I've been writing this book, but with 13,300 notes, I note that Evernote really bogs down in search.

Is there any current effort to improve search performance? I shouldn't be bogging down that badly on an eight-core 2.2GHz machine with 16GB of RAM.

Also, are there any plans to add some more advanced search methodologies? I'd like to be able to exclude phrases, and possibly some AND and OR operations.

Hi. You have brought up a subject that I have been wandering around the forums banging the drum about for a long time now. I am pleased to report that Evernote is well-aware of the problem (I've supplied Activity logs, screencasts, screenshots, explanations, and plenty of posts in the forums about it). They have also responded positively in public and private, and I think they are taking it seriously.

Unfortunately, even if they work night and day for months on it, the solution is probably still far off. I have asked for at least a year now to have the incremental search removed, but instead, we got the predictive one added, so I may not have been persuasive enough on some fronts. Or, the developers are growing tired of me :)

Until we see movement on this, I'd recommend reliance on saved searches, which will avoid the incremental and predictive search features. You might also want to consider making use of Spotlight, which has some of the search features you seek.
