msbohn 0
I'm wondering if anyone using a Mac has had success with a receipt scanner. I read some reviews on Amazon for the Fujitsu Scansnap scanners and some Mac owners were not happy. Thanks for any help. Link to comment

msbohn 0
I searched plenty and found scanners discussions, but none specific to Mac owners. Thus my post. Link to comment

These are just the first two I found by searching on Fujitsu & Mac: http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/34836-fujitsu-scansnap-s1500m-question/ http://discussion.evernote.com/topic/21839-canon-p-150m-vs-fujitsu-scansnap-s1300/ I would also suggest you search on scanners & Mac. Level 5 jbenson2 2,149 Posted June 3, 2013 Level 5 Share Posted June 3, 2013 I scan receipts (both thermal and letter size) with my Windows ScanSnap with no problem. What sort of problem do the Mac users mention? Two additional questions pop to mind about your inquiry 1.) What do you want to do with the receipts after they are scanned?Use search to find them (Evernote will work)Analyze and summarize the results - how much did you spend at Target last month (Evernote will not work) 1.) What type of receipts? The small narrow thermal paper receipts (Evernote can handle, but not a great solution)Letter size receipts (better suited for Evernote) For small thermal receipts (gas stations, grocery stores), I use Neat Receipts. The information is stored in a structured database, so in-depth queries can be done. Such as how much you spend on gifts last year. msbohn 0
Browncoat: Thanks for the feedback. In reading reviews of Mac users who have purchased receipt/scanners, I don't get a good feeling about their experiences with the software, sort of like it was an afterthought. Here are a couple of examples from Amazon that seem typical. ====================================By perfectionist - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)This review is from: Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 CLR 600DPI USB Mobile Scanner (PA03610-B005) (Office Product)I purchased this scanner because of the great reviews. The install was non-standard, and the SnapScan Manager is clearly not written by Mac developers. I can't remember using a less intuitive piece of software. It's just not acceptable. I was able to get it working on my MacBook Pro, but only by accident! I then tried to use it on my desktop Mac, and was unable to get it working. This review is from: Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 CLR 600DPI USB Mobile Scanner (PA03610-B005) (Office Product)I am a MAC user and although it says it is MAC compatible I did not have the software it needed.==================================== To answer your questions, scanning in receipts to Evernote and then being able to search for them is really all I need.My receipts are mainly the narrow thermal paper type, but not infrequently they are larger. I have looked at the Neat solution, and it is a possibility, but I was focusing on Evernote-based solutions. Link to comment

Here is my review of the Fujitsu ScanSnap ix500 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/review/R2ANROJDJLW7T7/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm I am thrilled with it. I have a somewhat different workflow than most people (http://www.christopher-mayo.com/?p=127), but the scanner is unquestionably the best I have ever seen or used. Link to comment
bduncan 49
I use the ScanSnap to scan documents to Evernote on the Mac (as do many many of my readers) and I love it. I suppose you could say that the main Mac omission compared to Windows is that it does not come with a Mac document management application, but since you are going to be using Evernote, I assume you don't care about that. Which ScanSnap do you have?Um, to be honest I have them all (I run a website about going paperless so I need to be up on all sorts of different scanners). My "main" scanner is an iX500, but before this year I used the S1300i/S1300 for years and was very happy with it. Link to comment
