wyattf 0
I'm new to EN. I've been excited about using it, but once again I find myself dealing with tech issues rather than getting things done. I have searched high and low and can’t see anyone with this issue.I use the Chrome extension of EN. I spent a fair amount of time setting up an intuitive hierarchical tag system. It has been working great. Then, yesterday for the first time I logged in to my EN account using iPhone and added a new note. I understand that hierarchical tags aren’t implemented on iPhone. But now when I go back to EN in Chrome, the tags list is alphabetical (indents from the original hierarchy are still there, but the tags are sorted alphabetically, creating a nonsensical mess). The only thing I can figure did this was the interaction with the iPhone. The iOS client must have transferred its alpha-only tag structure to the EN server which then transferred it to the other client (Chrome). I finally tried to manually reorder the tags in Chrome (back to the original hierarchy) but I can’t drag and drop them any more. When I try, the dragged tag falls right back into the alpha order. Is there a setting (in Chrome) I am missing? Can I simply not use iPhone (I can live with tags on iPhone being alpha only. I can’t live with it transferring that order and scrambling the TSW order on other clients.)Any help would be appreciated. Link to comment
Kent Reeder 0
This is happening to me, too. I've been an Evernote user for years and I use 1 notebook with intuitive, hierarchical tags in a David Allen, "Getting Things Done" style system. I've used both iOS, android, Chrome, and Windows versions for over a year. (That's the beauty of Evernote. It works Everywhere.) Today, for the first time, all of my tags in Chrome are suddenly in alphabetical order with the old hierarchy indentations applied, just like wyattf has experienced. And I am unable to adjust it. I'm rather fully invested in Evernote. If I have to change the way I think about the tags, tell me, I'll just deal with it. If you're going to change something like this in the future, just let me know it is coming. But in my mind - and if I'm wrong, let me know - the key differences in Evernote between tags and notebooks are two: 1) All tags can apply to any note. Not so with notebooks. 2) A note can have multiple tags. Not so with notebooks. Because of these differences, notebooks are useful for sharing notes, for VERY specific and clear ending projects, and for very unique reference material development (in which you'd want to search without any other possible interference.) Tags, however, are truly useful for organizing the thousands of notes you can store in Evernote and finding them in the long run. So, can anyone tell us if we are going to have hierarchical notes anymore in Chrome? Link to comment
Level 5* Metrodon 2,188 Posted April 18, 2013 Level 5* Share Posted April 18, 2013 This is a user forum, I think if you want a specific answer you should open a support case. By the way, I'm sure it's nothing to do with using the iPhone client, I bet the Chrome clipper has just been updated... Link to comment
TedStriker 0
The same exact thing is happening to me - on Chrome and Firefox. I also use a hierarchical "Getting Things Done" style system for tags. Everything seemes to have been re-sorted after I created a new note via the iPhone app. The odd thing is that I don't recall installing any updates to the iOS app recently, so I wonder if it's a software update issue in the web app? Kent Reeder 0
Here's the conversation I had with Evernote support. This tag issue should be resolved by tomorrow. Sanders: Hello, Kent Reeder. Please allow me a moment while I review your question.Sanders: I'd be glad to assist you with this. Are you referring to the Evernote Chrome clipper?Kent Reeder: No. I'm referring to using Evernote online, creating and editing notes, etc.Kent Reeder: I went on the Evernote user forum and a handful of others have noticed the same thing as of about 12 hours ago.Sanders: I understand. I'm really sorry about this issue, we were updating our servers last night and caused some things to change, they should be back to normal by tomorrow's morning.Kent Reeder: That's very good to know. Thank you. With your permission, I'll post this conversation into the Evernote Forum thread concerning this.Sanders: Of course, you're welcome Kent. Is there anything else I can assist you with right now other than this? Link to comment
wyattf 0
Looks like everything is back to normal. Thanks to those who posted, especially Kent, to let us know the situation wasn't unique and that EN was working on it. Link to comment
