Hi - welcome to the forums.  What are you trying to sync,  and have you been using Evernote for a while?  Any problems syncing previously?

I suggest you start off a support request now too - if this isn't a simple issue you're gonna need a 'proper' tech soon...

Edit:  Snap!

Try moving your new note to a local notebook (so it won't try to sync) and add another short text 'test' note to check whether it's the content that's causing a problem.  If there are different parts to that note,  try them one at a time to see what the issue might be.  Is it note size?  Odd characters?

i tried but failed. the same trouble occurs when i create new only title 'test' note without anything in content.

I have tried emailing a note, and web clipping. I am now getting those appearing in my Windows desktop app, but I am still get the sync error message. says it updates up to 74% then fails.

by the by, no problems on my iOS app.

I also run Windows 7 but I haven't seen any problems -so far- while syncing a large database.

Is anything else going on while these various syncs are failing to go through?  Any downloads / DVDs playing / AV scans?  Is there any chance you're short of disk space?

Sorry guys - no other thoughts at present.  Support (see sig) should be able to help if no-one else chips in with suggestions.  One last try - make sure you empty the Trash folder in all your clients before you sync.

well, that possibly did the trick. I have to admit, I went and tried it before I looked to see the current sync status (little red circled exclamation on the sync button), so I'm not sure if it was all better or the emptying trash did it, but it worked. Definitely a different progression in the syncing dialog, and all is now well. On to the laptop. Thanks for your help!!

Mine started syncing today as well. Must have been a temporary problem on the server side. Kind of freaks me out because I have 10k+ notes many of which are mission critical for me. I did a full backup of my database as soon as it started working again. Between this and the IOS syncing problems, I am now really rethinking things.

I get that Evernote is having understandable growing pains but what I don't get is the fact that all their employees act like the problem is always on the users end or like there is nothing wrong at all. Their status page never once mentioned the thousands of users having issues yesterday. All the users at my office were unable to sync yesterday so I know the problem was wide spread. They need to be more transparent with their problems or I will be jumping ship after 10 years of premium membership.

Dozens of factors might affect syncing,  and only a small percentage are under Evernote's control.  I'd say they're pretty safe in assuming problems are normally somewhere down the pipeline from them.  Evernote don't claim anything for their service availability,  and if you're using a cloud service (any cloud service)  I think you have to be prepared for internet 'weather'.  A 24-hour break in syncing isn't likely to be the end of the world..

Ironically I had the same error just after posting my last comment.  Went to bed thinking dark thoughts.  Next day everything was fine again.  I'm thinking temporary holdups due to network traffic / bandwidth / random gremlins.  If you get the error I'd do some house cleaning - empty the trash,  backup your database,  restart the computer (and Evernote) and wait for a re-sync.  If the issue persists for more than 48 hours,  raise a support ticket and post the number here.

Same problem here for a week or so now. Windows 7 desktop client. The support people told me to uninstall and reinstall with the "current version" (which was what I had already installed). But I did it anyway and no luck.

Happens with small notes (just "test"). Syncs fine from the web version to my android apps.

Dear all, I have had this issue for months. Win7 system. It only happens on my work laptop. It's frustrating because it messes up my notes and create a lots of conflict notes. Could someone from support team kindly assist here? Or shall I start a new thread?

Many thanks in advance.

Not really thanks.  I have contacted Evernote support twice about this issue. The first time they wanted the logs about syncing. I sent those.  Then they wanted a test note. That didn't work.  Their next instruction was to make sure my windows operating system was the newest version. It is.

My next solution was to uninstall evernote.  It's too bad because i thought it was going to be wonderful and if it had worked as expected, I would have considered paying for it.  Why not support something i used and liked?  But now i don't feel i can depend on it.

I do have it on more than one machine. So maybe it will work better on the others. ?  I haven't played around with it enough yet to know.

BTW, i have two accounts, paid and unpaid. my paid account seems never facing the same issue. but whatever.

I've been getting this error for months, and as everything seemed to be syncing OK, I've ignored it. However it has been annoying, so today I attempted to get rid of it.

I tried the "Empty the Trash" suggestion, but that failed.

In the midst of sending a log snippet to support I noticed this:

09:18:31 [16356] 0% Syncing notebook "Going Paperless" shared by jamietr
09:18:31 [16356] 0% * loaded linked notebook updateCount: 33547

"Going Paperless" is an Evernote notebook to which I had subscribed some time ago. I noticed that this looked like where the error was coming from, that 2 linked notes couldn't be expunged, and most importantly that the notebook count and server count were different. Coincidentally I had noticed a few days ago that this subscribed notebook hadn't been updating.

I next deleted "Going Paperless". This completely solved the problem.

The cause could have been that I had tried to delete 2 individual messages from the subscribed group.

The contributions I'm making to the knowledge base are:
  1. Examine the Activity Log to see if you can self-identify the sync issue. The most recent part is at the bottom. I copied it into Notepad to get a larger font. On my log, a new sync begins with "Connecting to www.evernote.com".
  2. Look especially for error messages and counts that don't match up.
  3. A sync error from a subscribed notebook could be the cause.

This is an error which is showing up a little at the moment. Something seems to happen with the Windows client and it's connection to the linked notebook that is listed in the activity log.

I, and others have seen this, and it has been reported to Evernote. Hopefully they can find a solution to it, so it doesn't happen.

Currently your only option in this case is to delete the notebook from your account. You can re-add it again afterwards though. It just allows for whatever is causing the error to be reset.
