Tedology 7
Hello all,Well, I just went Premium and, with my premium account, I'm trying to share a notebook with my FREE account.I clicked on the notebook, and then clicked "Share".I sent the invitation to the email address of my FREE account.I opened that email and clicked the invitation.I get an error message: "Oops...shared notebook with another account."What am I doing wrong, please?Thank you. Level 5* gazumped 10,777 Posted January 8, 2013 Level 5* Share Posted January 8, 2013 Hello again.. I haven't had that error personally, but I'd guess it's something simple - is your Evernote still logged in to the premium account? You did change to the free account to accept the share, right? Tedology 7
Hi again, Gazumped, and thanks for your patience. Yes, I believe what happened is that I was on a DIFFERENT free account (long story... I just wanted to change user name so exported all the notebooks and re-created an account)...but the thing is...I'm not even sure how to UNSHARE a person? I'm currently using Evernote 5 for the Mac and I'm not really liking the interface so far. Link to comment
Level 5* gazumped 10,777 Posted January 8, 2013 Level 5* Share Posted January 8, 2013 OK I'm a Windows person through 'n through so I hope it's the same in your interface - find the options you set to share the notebook initially, and just delete/ change them as required. Once your permission is removed, the sharing stops. Link to comment
Tedology 7
That's just the thing. I'm now back at home (Windows) and when I right-click the notebook, I see no option to "stop sharing" (although that's what the KB says to do). If I click on "Share notebook" I just see "Invite" or "Get a public link" Nothing about stopping permissions. In YOUR windows client, Gazumped...where would you find how to stop sharing? Level 5* gazumped 10,777 Posted January 9, 2013 Level 5* Share Posted January 9, 2013 Same place, I think - I get a window that offers "invite individuals" and "create a public link"; but above that there's another section which says "manage permissions" and lists all the users I've already invited so I can change or remove their access. Are you -sorry if this is a dumb question- logged into the premium account from which you gave access? Link to comment
Tedology 7
Not a dumb question...Yes, I'm logged in with my Premium account. I can tell this because I have "Premium" options. Link to comment
Tedology 7
I don't see "Manage Permissions"...I'm on version 4.6 (if that matters) Link to comment

Level 5* gazumped 10,777 Posted January 9, 2013 Level 5* Share Posted January 9, 2013 Yep - just checking.. Good call on the version - I'm using a beta pre-release but as far as I recall the permissions process changed long enough ago that you should have the same options I do. OK - I don't have any brilliant ideas (not much change there) but I do know that it's specific notebooks that are shared. Is it feasible for you to set up a new notebook with a slightly different name and transfer the notes from this lesson plan notebook into a new one? If you then delete this notebook, the share is gone. Heavy handed I know, but effective. Then you can try again with a clean slate. If the same problem returns, try the 'chat' help on the Evernote support page. Sorry but I'm fresh out of inspirations! Link to comment
Tedology 7
That's okay, Gazumped...at least you're the one person who at least tries to help. Thanks very much for that.I'm in Chat and she has no idea what to do.I'm starting to wonder why I signed up for Premium.I tried again to INVITE the free account. I signed ON with my free account...when I click "Open shared notebook" I get: ""Oops... Shared notebook assigned to another account. This shared notebook is assigned to antoher user. Contact the ntebook owner to obtain an invitation.""I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. Link to comment

I think when I FIRST invited my free account...but was NOT on the free account when I clicked "JOIN" (from the email) it somehow flubbed it up. Because now I see permissions on top. I was seeing a blue notebook which lead me to believe that it was shared. Link to comment

spg SCOTT 736
Each time I think about posting here, you find the answer, kudos to your perseverance Anyway...When you first invited, and clicked the link, it would have linked it to whatever account was signed in, which you have found was the issue. Were you using the same link later on? This wouldn't work, because they are one time use and are tied to the user that accepts them. So to invite further accounts (read your free one that you wanted) you would have to send another invite email. When I manage multiple accounts, I try to use different browsers and keep the accounts separate that way, to hopefully avoid any confusion. Link to comment
Tedology 7
Thanks for chiming in, Scott. Much appreciated! Actually, I figured NOT to use the same link...but for some odd reason, I was still having the issue. Interesting about different browsers. Would that work with different tabs of the same browser? Or would Evernote not like that? Link to comment
spg SCOTT 736
Interesting, not sure why it would not work if you were generating new links.Different tabs wouldn't work because they share cookies (which store the authentication) Different browsers don't share them so you can be logged in separately. That said, just making sure you are logged out of Evernote Web before you start with the sharing should help avoid issues.
