Hmmm, this is a bit suspicious. I'm getting the EXACT same error as the log listing above, right down to the SAME GUID!:

2012-10-16 09:34:08 sync [ENSyncEngine] INFO: Syncing notes and resources...

2012-10-16 09:34:12 main [ENSyncEngine] ERROR: Could not create note 'Evernote Note Deletion Confirmation' [6850b97f-28c8-49f5-af71-eedb9c3571f2]. Notebook GUID [30f6ba6a-da34-4a5c-9f13-4ce813f84af4] does not exist.

2012-10-16 09:34:12 sync [ENSyncEngine] ERROR: failed to add note with guid: 6850b97f-28c8-49f5-af71-eedb9c3571f2

2012-10-16 09:34:12 sync [ENSyncEngine] DEBUG: FAIL

2012-10-16 09:34:12 sync [ENSyncEngine] INFO: Sync complete.

There's also another thread with a log posting with the SAME GUID:

Either Evernote's GUIDs are NOT Unique, which would be really bad or more likely this is some backend bug in the evernote infrastructure (as was previously speculated).

So the question is, how do we clear this up??

I'm here to echo lamarg's posting from Jan 14, has anyone resolved this? Evernote 5 seems to be bumping into the same old synch issues on Mac Air desktop version.

Standard synchronization failure message:

"Evernote is unable to connect with the Evernote Service. This may be due to a network problem or service maintenance. Please try again later. If enabled, automatic synchronization will resume once the Service becomes available."

Can an EN employee respond with some trouble shooting for this very common issue? I'll issue a support ticket as well.

Not using shared notebooks at the moment, but am using Microsoft Word attachments.

Thanks!

Hi. I'm a huge Evernote fan and use it across devices and OSes. For the past few week or two, however, I've noticed that the version I run on my desktop machine at work (v5.0.0, on MacBook Pro running OS X v7.5.1) is no longer synching, or synching only intermittently. It's making me nuts.

Here's the error message I keep getting:

Synchronization failure

Evernote is unable to connect with the Evernote Service. This may be due to a network problem or service maintenance. Please try again later. If enabled, automatic synchronization will resume once the Service becomes available."

And per other messages in this forum, I Help > Activity Log. Here's the tail end of a long sequence (which suggests that it's synching even though it's not):

Can anyone help? I've tried everything: wired, wireless, logging in/out. I'm willing to uninstall/reinstall if someone can tell me how to save the unsynch'd notes first. (Obviously, I am not a developer.) Thanks.

I would suggest that everyone experiencing this problem log a support ticket. The problem seems to be caused by some shared notebooks.

Here are two options:

Option A: Self diagnosis - BACK UP YOUR LOCAL DATA

1. Find the offending Joined/Linked Notebook (containing the offending note)

2. Leave the notebook (delete it from your client)

3. Ask to be reinvited OR just rejoin it if the notebook is public

Option B: Wait

Our next beta and production builds will address this issue automatically.

Jackolicious,

I was unable to find the culprit note. I had to delete the entire Shared Notebook to end the error messages.

Since GUIDs are probably the worse to look for (especially when you can't associate them with notes), most people will give up pretty soon. Debugging logs are great for people that know what they looking for. Other people are clueless when they face that kind of issue.

May I suggest to add an "Advanced properties" menu item when you right-click on a note? GUIDs might be listed there alongside of other useful debugging information.

Keep on your good work,

Simon

After SimonF's post about shared notebooks, I have deleted all the shared notebooks I was signed up for. If it's a shared notebook issue, the same GUID would make sense.

I do most of my work in Evernote on the PC, so I haven't had the chance to check my Mac and see if the problem has cleared up. I plan to check it tonight.

flexiblefine,

I also use Evernote on various platforms but that particular sync problem appeared only on my OSX clients. I have not witness such problems on the clients for Windows, iOS, Android or Blackberry (too many devices :) ...).

While looking at the logs, I noticed different GUIDs for the same operation, which trigged my mind. If GUIDs have changed on either the server or the client, I would assume it will output such error message.

Please keep us updated. Someone of us might have to open a case with EV Support regarding this problem.

Regards,

Simon

All,

I had a similar log file. On my end, it was related to a shared notebook. I end up deleting it since GUIDs where different and no match could be found.

I suspect that kind of issue might be related to GUID change or deletion on the Evernote backend infrastructure.

That seems unrelated to the problem I'm having. Have you upgraded to the latest Evernote? If so, it seems like an internal issue with the way the client interacts with the server. I think you might be stuck until Evernote fixes the bug.

I'm having a problem very much like Dean, down to the problem with "Evernote Note Deletion Confirmation." I don't have a note with that title anywhere -- or at least not anywhere that comes up in a search on the Windows client or Web client. I presume our GUIDs are different. :)

IM not seeing the note... here is what i get from the error log

I had a very similar issue. Go to "Help -> Activity Log" and look at the log output. There might be something in there about a parse error on a specific note. For me, I had a parse error on a note I created with the iOS app that had only a camera photo in it. I logged into the web interface, deleted the note, deleted it in the Mac app (both by moving it to the trash, then deleting it in the trash) and that fixed it for me.
