(Archived) Searching for notes with only one tag

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I'm a relatively new EN user (about 2 months) and am looking for a little assistance with searching.

I recently used the search -tag:* to locate my early un-tagged notes and add a tag. Trouble is, I typically use 3-4 tags per note, and adding the first tag immediately drops the note from the search. I want to go back and find those single-tag notes so I can add the rest of the tags.

Can I search for notes with only one tag, or search for notes with only "TagA"?

Suggestions?

Not as far as I know, no.

If you had tagged the previously-untagged notes with a unique tag (not used by any other notes in your system), then you'd be able to do what you want, but if not, then I think you may be out of luck as far as getting a quick result. In the Windows client, changing a note's tag doesn't modify the note's updated time, so you couldn't isolate the newly tagged notes that way.

If you have a tag named TagA, you can search for it with

tag:TagA

Or if you want to find all notes that do not contain TagA, you could search for

-tag:TagA

Alternate suggestion

In the Windows client, if you don't have thousands of notes, you could sort by the Tag column.

The short 1 tag would stand out amongst the 3 and 4 tag notes.

But it will require scrolling through all the notes.

That would be in the List view, yes?

That works. I've only got about 200 notes, so it's not a huge deal. Thank-you.

Yes, it is the standard List View

Not the Snippet View, or Thumbnail view, or the new and wonderful Vertical List View for Windows users.

I moved my columns around, so I'm not sure what the default is.

Mine are: Created, Title, Tags,Notebook, Sync, Size, Updated

If you first filter on the tag you're looking for, that should knock it down from 200. Plus, if you're adding new tags, the notes won't drop off as with your original scenario.
