(Archived) Clipper should recognize if the web site was already clipped to avoid duplicates

Web Clipper currently does not check if the web site was already clipped and instead creates a new note every time. However, since the URL of the page is saved with the note, it could and should be used to check if this URL was already clipped and display at least a warning that the URL is already in the notes, or, even better, provide the option to choose between creating a new note and overwriting the existing note.

Is there anything I am missing, or is this feature simply not there (yet)?

Thanks, Robert

Hi Robert, welcome to the forum :)

There isn't anything that I know of that does this exactly to your request (i.e. checks the full url for an existing note)

Depending on your settings and browser, there is a partial check for existing notes.

In Firefox, if you have your settings set to "Send to Web" you get the option to see notes that contain the same domain as the page you are clipping.

This should allow you to check if you have already clipped the page.

An example, clipping this page:

http://www.evernote.com/shard/s26/sh/77877bc0-ff7b-4ede-ad9f-d2d4a1381164/ae161dc5ef9f32d953d3bef6d047dfd2

I believe that this was in the chrome version as well, but it seems that it is not any more. Not sure why or when this changed.

Hi Scott,

thanks. In my case this doesn't help much. I use Evernote as a kind of personal knowledge base to store technical articles and bookmarks and have hundreds if not thousands of clips coming from e.g. blogs.msdn.com domain, so a quick info that this particular URL was already clipped would really help a lot. Since URLs are unique, I presume that it should not be too difficult to implement a lookup logic based on URLs.

I've got the same problem. There is no any warning or tabs or any info about already clipped page on CHROME !

There is no any "Notes" section at the bottom of the window like in your screenshot.

"Related pages" appears AFTER the clipping.

So the workflow is:

- clip the page

- see that already clipped

- got to view of just clipped page

- delete it

very annoying and stupid

Webclipper 5.5.1
