David33409 17
I'm importing 60+ notebooks and each one has "Import " prepended to the name of the notebook. Is there any way to prevent this so Evernote uses the same name of the file being imported?Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.David Link to comment
BurgersNFries 2,407
It may do this to prevent accidentally adding the notes to an existing notebook. This way, if you want to add those notes to an existing notebook of the same name, you have to do it conciously. You should be able to just rename the notebook to remove the part you don't want in the notebook name. The Windows client allows you to do this. Link to comment
David33409 17
BurgersNFries, you are probably correct but it would be nice if Evernote would allow you the option to add it or not. I might want to use another prefix other than "Import" (e.g., "Imported 2012-06-25"). Renaming a notebook to remove "Import" wouldn't "normally" be a problem; however, I have over 100 that I am importing from another account. Changing a single notebook name isn't a big deal but when you multiply that by 100 it seems a little tedious and inefficient when I have no need to worry about accidentally adding notes to an existing notebook because I started with nothing. Just something that I hope Evernote adds to their feature list. I've created an AppleScript to take care of this for me. The 15 minutes it took to create probably saved me hours in the long run. If you have multiple notes on the Mac, instead of using the "import" function, just select them all (CMD + a if they are in the same folder) and drag them into the notebook of your choice. You will see no dialogue boxes.I don't know if this would work for notebooks (your case), because I don't think you can drag notebooks into the application. However, it might be worth a try! David33409 17
Hi GrumpyMonkey, I hope I didn't catch you at a bad time Have you tried this yourself? I have 100+ notebooks archived/exported into separate .enex files. I tried what you suggested first and it works IF I want ALL the notes in a single Notebook. That isn't what I want. I want the notebooks imported individually with all notes intact. I spent a lot of time organizing my notes in another account and I don't want to lose that organization just because I've decided to create another account for business use. If I have 100+ notebooks all with at least 10 notes each, can you imagine if I imported them all into a single notebook? I think I'd be grumpy too David Link to comment

Therefore, I'm guessing it would be low on the priority list, if it's on the list at all. Link to comment

I'm confident others will want to move notebooks/stacks/notes around, between accounts, and when they do, I'll be ready to assist them. It may be possible that Evernote doesn't want people to create multiple accounts and move notebooks around. I need to separate business and personal use for many reasons. Making that process easy and efficient should be in everyone's best interest. Link to comment

I'd also guess that a lot of people rarely (if ever do this) and those that do it, most will only do it occasionally. I'm not saying it wouldn't be in everyone's (or at least some people's) best interest to make this more workable for YOUR situation. I'm just saying it's probably pretty low on the priority list, if it's on the list at all. After all, they do have limited resources & just like any company, need to get the biggest ROI from them. I agree with you. This isn't a "typical" situation. As a new Evernote user I'm still learning its capabilities (and limitations). Now that I know some of the limitations of Evernote I'm able to provide a work-around for myself and others. More importantly, end users shouldn't be discouraged (like I initially was) in migrating notebooks between accounts. Bottom line, if someone wants to duplicate or move several notebooks from one account to another, I can help save you hours of work and frustration. David Link to comment
Level 5* GrumpyMonkey 4,320 Posted June 25, 2012 Level 5* Share Posted June 25, 2012 Hi. I'm actually not grumpy at all I haven't tried my suggestion. I only have two notebooks, would have to make a bunch to try this, an I'm on iOS at the moment, so I'll let you play around with it! My recommendation would be to do one account, get rid of the notebooks and use tags, or even nothing at all (my method), but organizational systems tend to be highly personal, and I'd hate to throw a wrench in the works! David33409 17
Hi. Glad to see you smiling. I figured out how to resolve my issue using AppleScript. AppleScript is great but has a few limitations when it comes to 'stacks'. You only have 2 notebooks so this won't be a problem for you. I have many because I am a research fanatic and I was mixing my business and personal notebooks in the same account. It got quite discombobulated. I decided to create another Evernote account for my personal stuff - hence the need to move a large number of notebooks from one account to another. Needless to say I did accomplish what I needed using work-arounds. If you or anyone ever needs to do this let me know and I'll send you the AppleScripts I used. They were a great help.
