(Archived) HELP: Bad OCR results

llbean

Idea

When I search for a word, lets say I type in "America" and hit enter, I notice that often many of the hits are false hits within pdfs (usually areas with no text). Still new at understanding OCR but what I do know is that currently my search capability is greatly weakened. So before I continue down the road, I wanted to see if anybody could offer any advice or point me in the right direction.

Thanks-

LL

hi. i usually ocr them myself (adobe pro), but even that has it's issues. things are really bad with asian characters. ocr has come a long way since i started using it about ten years ago. but, it is far from perfect. information rich titles, keywords typed into notes holding the pdf attachments, tags, and notebooks will hopefully help to mitigate the problems.

i wouldn't say this is an evernote thing. it's just where we are right now.

What you describe might not necessarily be what you're calling it, that is, "false hits." Are you sure the words you're searching for don't appear anywhere in the PDFs, or is the search highlighting just off?

EDIT: Two other related conversations:

Got it. Alright, I'm locking this thread, since it sounds like the problem or problems have already been described on the conversations I linked to (and people can and should keep commenting there with their experiences). Hopefully Evernote will fix this soon.
