Evernote Reading and Notetaking Challenge?

Anyone up for an Evernote Reading and Notetaking Challenge? This is something I just made up. If you have any suggestions for improvement, I'm all ears :)

What do we do?

For one month we read, take notes, write up our thoughts about what we read, and make it available to everyone in a shared notebook. Choose at least two of the four challenges below:

What do we read?

1. Read one book a week from one of the New York Times Bestseller lists (http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/overview.html). For extra fun, tell us something about the author and their previous work.

2. Read one newspaper or magazine article a day from a national publication (put it in your notebook if you can). For extra fun, if possible, find an article on the opposite side of the issue to share as well.

3. Read one academic journal article each day (put it in your notebook if you can). For extra fun, tell us something about how it fits into the field of research.

4. Read one "classic" book from a genre (fiction, non-fiction, etc.). For extra fun, tell us something about what happened to the book and author later.

If you announce what you are going to read ahead of time, we can get together and read some of the same books. Of course, people can also feel free to jump in and make suggestions for you :)

Anyhow, if people are interested, let's give this a try. Maybe we can start on Monday, April 9?

Awesome, I toyed around with a book club style idea a while back for the forum, but other stuff got in the way, so by all means let's do this. Some initial thoughts:

So, when I hear book club, I hear collaborative reading and note-taking. One collaborative-read book for the month. Most online book clubs I've been a part of break up a book into a couple weekly chunks so you're not discussing the entire book in one sitting.

B, we'll need an owner for the shared notebook, someone who can dole out the invites to other Evernote users.

C, I really like the idea of journals and articles being shared as part of a collaborative notebook.

D, There's no way I can keep up with a book a week. Just too much going on, I'd have to cheat :)

Thanks G. Always good advice.

A. I thought about the same book too. Maybe that is a good idea. I just don't know how to choose it :) Maybe we could all do one challenge each week. Week one would be the book, week two would be the articles, and so on, and so forth.

B. I was thinking we could share our own notebooks, but your idea sounds better. I nominate you :)

C. Me too :)

D. Yep. That's why I had four. I had jbenson in mind with the newspaper article a day, and you in mind for the books, but I think we might have to do page numbers instead. Hunger Games is no Cryptonomicon.

As a forum mod, you should have the power to create a poll when creating a new topic. We could always start with a known quantity that we know has a good local audience behind it, like Sci Fi. Select 5-6 Sci Fi books and have a vote.

B. Fine by me :)
