I'm not in the business, but I've been using Evernote in our recent house-hunting endeavors. It's great for clipping listings, and now that we have an offer in, all of the various documentation that needs to happen.

Sure that works. Here is what I was wondering. I use Evernote for all parts of my business. With buyers here is what I am doing in short.

Creat notebook, do buyer consultation and take notes

For showings I put the property tours into a note, while showing I take notes of what the like and don't like and take pictures of highlights and email them the note when finish.

After we have Have a contract I start a new transaction note that has notes from transaction as well as a check list of everything I will be doing. I share with URL so they can see at anytime what I am doing. Also in here I have contact info for everyone like lenders, home inspectors title etc.

If we want repairs I take pictures with Skitch so we have before and after.

Then when almost at closing I share another master note that ha numbers for electric, city water, trash, cable etc so they don't need to look them up. I also keep a copy in the notebook of all documents and contacts inspection reports etc.

So question is, as a buyer and evernote user is there anything else you would like to see.

So, we started looking at houses in February, and are about to close on what was, somewhat ironically, the first house that we looked at. This was the first time for me, and my wife has been in the same house for over 20 years, so essentially it's the first time for her, too. Our broker is a friend, and she was great -- organized, proactive, and really helpful. So all that is good, and we were fortunate to be in a good situation, dealing with someone we know and trust.

I use Evernote a lot, and so naturally I applied it to track things for myself; clipped home listing web pages, made lists, stored inspection reports, quotes, bank forms, whatever was related to our search, and the house we decided on. But the tricky thing was getting all of the information. Our broker tended to send things to my wife, and she didn't always forward them on to me, so I didn't necessarily get everything. I think that using Evernote's sharing capabilities could have helped that process out, rather than using emails & phone calls.

BTW, we closed on Friday. Thrills and chills, right up to the last moment, I guess this is not surprising for short sales. Our broker was a rock. We got a great house for a great price; it's a great time to buy. Now the shoe's on the other foot, putting our house on the market in a month or so; not so great time to sell.

That is awesome Jeff! Congrats.. Always exciting. I understand, I do lots of short sales (Seller's side) and use Evernote for all my short sale management.

I signed up for your email list. Too early in the morning for me to go get my purse and order your book. I am an agent in the NW Valley and have spent days watching youtube tutorials on evernote and GTD and real estate. I look forward to reading your book. I will probably have some functionality questions when done, but that it my inquisitive mind, always trying to work out the best most streamlined way.

Have you seen www.thesecretweapon.org manifesto? Incredible, but lacking in some areas when it comes to real estate.

I follow the principles of GTD, but use my own system that you will find int he book.

I have just fallen in to Evernote and starting to understand what it can do for a real estate business here recently.  I have been focusing on building an organization system with tags right now because I can see down the road that I will run in to the limit of 250 notebooks very quickly if my business grows as I intend it.

 

I have currently been finding my preferences in templates, checklists, different reminders, and action plans that I want to have for myself through out all of the different parts from lead to close and making sure that they are also easily and quickly reproducible so when I am talking to someone new I can get right in to a new lead sheet or needs analysis.

 

One thing that I am going to have my EA start on very soon is putting together notebooks for our processes and guidelines so that everything is ready to go when we hop in to a business account.

 

Would love to start up a conversation about what things look like for you guys over at the goodlife team and how you are keeping everything together.  I have loved your videos and am very motivated seeing what you guys have done!

Great thread, thanks to Goodlife Team for starting the discussion.  Also, thanks to Dan Gold and Dean Ouellete, read both of your books on Evernote/GTD system/real estate application.

 

I agree with Lori C, for those who use a GTD system for tracking their activity.  the secret weapon is the system I used to set up my notebooks and tags.

 

I'd be interested in sharing / seeing any templates you all are using for new or reoccuring notes in your system.  Dean I know you reference templates and links in your book, but unfortunately I've been unable to get those links working on my end.

 

I use template Index notes.  One for clients and One for properties/transactions.  I reference individual notes via link from the index note for each client or transaction.  It helps me quickly and cleanly access info and related deals to each.

Does the evernote have a separate sheet wherein like say for example in a team, they can collaborate directly to that sheet? but it leaves out the other user from prying your other sheets for privacy. its like you have to invite them only to that sheet?
