Hey Gang,

There's a couple of notebooks that have this weird looking icon and I'm not sure what it is. The image is attached.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Looking at the icon, it means that the notebook is a local only notebook and will not be synced to the servers.

Great, thanks.

Is there any reason that it wouldn't be synced? And is there a way to change it so that it will? I definitely want it to...

Thanks!

Local notebooks are available specifically for the purpose of not syncing them to the Evernote servers. Maybe you don't want the items to be visible on other installations (e.g. the Evernote client that you use at work). Or maybe you have sensitive information in that notebook that you don't want stored in the cloud. In any case, the decision to make a notebook local or syncable (and the latter is the default0 is made at notebook creation time, at least on the Windows client, and it may not be changed later on. I think that it's the same on the Mac. If you want the notes synced, then you'll need to move them to a non-local notebook.

When you create a notebook, you get two options:

- Synchronised Notebook

- Local Notebook

Once you have created the notebook, it cannot be changed.

To change it, you will have to create a new notebook that is synchronised.

I would suggest:

- Rename the local notebook (the one in your image)

- Create a new Synchronised notebook with the original name

- Move the notes from the local notebook to the synchronised notebook

- Sync

- Once sync has finished, if you feel it necessary, check the notebook, and notes exist on the web client (this will confirm that it worked, not necessarily needed, but gives peace of mind)

- Ensure that all notes have been moved from the local folder, and synced, then the local notebook can be deleted.

That's pretty strange... they definitely were NOT supposed to be local notebooks.

I imported notebooks that I exported from another account (you follow that one :)).

I'll spare you guys the details, if you want to get a clearer understanding of what's going on you can check out my thread over here:

Anyway... long story short I was moving stuff from a business account to a personal account and in the process I went over my monthly quota when I imported the other notebooks.

Could it be that this notebook is just waiting to sync once it is able to given my monthly quota?

I guess we will have to see...

Thanks guys!

Not waiting to sync, no. As you went over your quota, any further imports would have created local notebooks, since synced ones can't be used.

The only option would have been to make the imported notebooks local, and not synced, meaning that they wont contribute to the upload limit.

You will still have to go through the process of moving the notes to new notebooks as their sync/not sync status cannot be changed.

(At least that is how I understand the import/upload limit workings...Think of this as an educated guess, I could be wrong... :))

In the Windows client, I seem to remember that imported notes went (by default) into a local notebook. That seems to have changed. Not sure what the Mac options are. It's always good to read the dialog boxes rather than just click through...

It imports without any problem generally :-).

I imported probably 10+ notebooks and there were only a couple that had issues.
