Skitch for iPad!

Idea

Huge news! Skitch for iPad is now live in the Apple app store! Is it the biggest leap forward in non-verbal communication since man learned to write on cave walls, since Egyptians scrawled their first ibises (ibi?) on papyrus? We think so.

From the noteworthy blog:

Skitch is the amazingly fun and surprisingly powerful way to move your ideas and projects forward using fewer words. With Skitch, annotate and draw on just about anything that you see, whether it’s a new or existing photo, a webpage, screenshot, map, or a blank canvas. Then, share your work with friends, colleagues or save it all to Evernote. It couldn’t be simpler.

And the tools list:

Skitch comes with a number of touch-friendly drawing tools that are designed for speed.

  • Finger: Use the finger tool to grab and manipulate any object that you’ve drawn and move it around. You can also tap on an object and rotate it or pinch and zoom to resize it. Using two fingers to rotate and resize Skitch rectangles is surprisingly satisfying. We don’t know why.
  • Pencil: The pencil is your go-to for freehand drawing.
  • Arrows: Draw the famous Skitch arrows to point out what’s important.
  • Text: Select the text option, then tap wherever you want your text to appear. Enter it into the text box and tap Done.
  • Shapes: Choose from circles, squares and lines. Drag you finger on the canvas to draw your shapes.
  • Crop: Crop your canvas to any size you wish with this tool.
  • Color and thickness: Tap on the colored dot to choose a color and line thickness for your arrows, shapes and text.
  • Trash: Select something with the finger tool, then tap trash to remove the item, or tap without selecting to clear the canvas.

Let us know what you think. Happy holidays, eh?

@gbarry

All on an iPad, not necessarily from the same app.

But then if it's not possible I can just use some random twitter account just for posting random Skitch pics...

Yup, not available at the moment. This, of course, is our initial launch. So you'll likely see other changes coming down the pike soon enough. I've flagged for continuing internal discussion, regardless.

love it! but cant use it fully. after signing on and just before the security code, it quits. Frustrating (a little) . I tried several times it wont link to Evernote. Both downloaded in ipad and iphone. It was difficult to find a link to this forum. Glad I did.Evernote forum general does not seem to know Skitch exists.

I know that I am new to this but where is the WORD WRAP option for the text box. I want to use this for my teaching but need to be able to write a little more than just one line of text!

Please help!

I've found a manual "enter" or carriage return, whatever you want to call it, tends to do the trick. The text box expands to allow you as much text as you want, you just have to do the spacing yourself, as there's no text box to word wrap within at the moment.

Thank you! I love Skitch for iPad. It's an excellent tool for my creative team. Just a couple ideas I think would add value - Palm protect if possible and an opacity option, at least for the pen tool.

Thanks for the great addition to Evernote!

Awesome app, very very useful! What's the best way to share pics and post them on web from iPad?

So far I have figured out that I can send them to twitter and them copy a link from there but what if I don't want to post them as tweets? Like for example when I want to post a pic in a forum discussion.

I can share a note with the pic to twitter from evernote on iPad and it will generate a link to this note in evernote. Any way to copy this link without posting to twitter?

All from the same app you mean? I don't believe so. The best way to share via a link right now is to export to EN, then share that specific note link.

This is just the kind of thing I was looking for to annotate web pages, especially now that safari doesn't let you send a page to PDF. However - I'm not sure the web feature works correctly - right now all I can see to do is take a screencap of the page (the part that's showing - NOT the whole page). So of the buttons on top, photos and camera are basically the same, and screenshot and "web" are basically the same. Am I missing something? I dont see a way to scroll down on the web page once I've captured it. Thanks!

Exciting!!! Mr. Fries has been using an iPad 2 to develop a demo for a potential client. He knows how much I love my iPhone & refer to it as the source of all truths. He & his partner both got iPads & he indicated that I would be getting one, too. :) If so, I will definitely be using Skitch on it!!!

BTW, I've got Skitch on Kindle Fire...but since I've not yet done what needs to be done to take screen caps (and since there's no camera)...it's really just something to play with...IMO...

Using Skitch with a device where you have photos or screen caps is very much worthwhile. I tend to do that stuff every day on my desktops.

Like children, I love all of our products equally.

But Skitch for iPad is really, really good. You'll notice in the bottom left corner the words "Evernote Austin". The first product to come from our dedicated studio there.

One cool feature I constantly using on the new Skitch for iPad is the screen capture feature where I can take a quick picture of what I am viewing on say a website then instantly mark it up and save and share via Evernote.

THAT's what I miss on the Fire! I know there are ways to get screen caps on Android devices. I just haven't had the time to figure out which way to go. But I do use other apps (Jetscreenshot/Snagit) to do this on my desktops probably several times a day. If not, then certainly several times a week.

Oh, and last I checked (yesterday?) the rotate objects didn't seem to be working on the Fire. I had the latest version. So either it's not in the Fire version or else I don't understand what "two finger rotate" is... (But I think I do...)

I enjoy using Skitch on my iPad to make quick drawings of ideas, especially ones based on web images using the capture. Some features I miss include the wipe snap, and make background transparent. Additionally the lines that can be made on the mobile version are just one thickness. I've used a great many other apps that can mimic the pressure sensitivity I can achieve on my mac version of skitch, and hope that the mobile version will come to include this. I hope that Skitch mobile will continue to be modified to more closely resemble the desktop version. Thanks for a great product.
