Some things that have changed since that post:

  • I no longer do a notebook for each student. Notebooks are great for sharing, but we didn't have any parents that wanted in on that part of the project
  • I now use two notebooks for each class. As I co-teach two of my classes, I can share those notebooks with my co-teachers.
    • One notebook is for artifacts
    • The second notebook is for groups and notes

This sort of surprises me. I wonder what the specific sticking point was? If you teach in a Title I school I could see the technology adoption rate reduced because, well, families just may not have access to tech, unfamiliar with tech entirely, or because of language barriers if you're teaching in a bilingual environment.

If anything, sharing directly and with a strong enough translation tool would do wonders for reducing any language barriers.
