Hello,

Opening the Evernote 3.0 app in regular or full-screen mode runs the fans like crazy!

Activity Monitor shows evernote taking anywhere from 25% to 85% of CPU even when idle in the background.

Because of the upgrade, Evernote 3 is generating thumbnails and that might be what's causing this, but I'm not sure.

Any ideas? Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks.

I think you just need to let it run through and create the thumbnails - this should be a once only process.

yeah, mine took ages generating thumbnails - maybe an hour. I have a lot of notes. Once it finished everything went back to normal.

Let it do its thing. Took about two minutes for about 800 notes on my 2011 MBA. Yeah, the fan kicked on and the activity monitor showed between 80 and 95%, but it was done pretty quickly for me.

Let's face it; if you never rise above 50%, then you probably have twice the CPU that you actually need. These things can run to 100% without being harmed, in general. So there's no real danger in having your CPU spike to 95%, except for the following:

* if it lasts a long time, there may be a problem with your software (Evernote in this case); depends on what's being performed -- thumbnail generation for a lot of notes may *take* a long time

* if your software doesn't yield to other programs; i.e., your system stops being responsive

* if you're running on battery power, this will probably run it down faster, and you will probably heat up somewhat (hence the fan)
