(Archived) Flawed Text Note Search in Evernote

Recommended Posts

Evernote really has a flawed text note search... For example, when I put a link to search, it should come up (The results of the search) with the exact link/URL that I have inputted, instead of some random scatter of letters.

This situation is illustrated below:

Are you entering a web address in the search bar w/o specifying a URL search? That's what it looks like you're doing. Searching on:

http://www.lifehacker.com

will produce results similar to what you've posted b/c the period & the slash are word delimiters. It's the same as if you'd entered:

http www lifehacker com

If I want to find notes containing a link to Lifehacker, then I'd need to do this:

sourceURL:http://lifehacker.com/*

And to clarify, this searches only in the URL field of the note, not the body and must match the URL exactly. In this example the www is not included b/c Lifehacker articles do not include that in the URL.

If you want to find exactly that link in the text of your note, you can always enclose it in quotes in the search control, e.g. "http://www.lifehacker.com"

I'm searching with in a note, so I can't necessarily search using the 'sourceURL' function.

Doesn't work. I'm searching within the note itself, with a very specific criteria, whether it is a exact link or phrase, yet it comes up all over the place.

Intended feature? :?

My suggestion {b}was for searching within the note itself. Did you enclose your search string in quotes?

Yes. Does this require a screenshot as well?

I'll copy and paste the exact words that I have entered into the search box: "Leaning for a MBA but unsure - student, mobile youth". Do you still not believe me?

(Note: While the words 'appear' in the text document, if this was a very large document and I wasn't on the same page as the thing I was looking for, I'd be skipping through all those findings; all 127 matches instead of the 1 match I am supposed to get. Even with quotation-marks around the search terms.)

Wasn't a mater of belief; since you seemed to miss the first part of what I said, I just wanted to verify that you were quoting the string, and not trying to stress you out -- sorry about that. I agree, it does looks like a bug to me, and not intended, at least I hope that it isn't: it can be very useful to be able to search for literal text that contains spaces or punctuation sometimes. You're on the Mac, but I can't replicate it in the Windows client.

I thought it might be due to the - (dash) in the search. I tested it by creating a note with and without the dash.

Here is the search result using the dash and enclosing the phrase with quotes. It worked correctly on my Windows version 4.2.2.3900 (127835) Public
