(Archived) HOWTO: Restore from .obsolete folder

bigbird4217

Idea

My entire Evernote database was clobbered. I notice that there is a backup folder of content (xxx.obsolete) in the Libraries directory. I understand that this was created during an upgrade in case something went wrong. This wouldn't be perfectly up to date, but would restore a great majority of my lost content. Can I do this and how?

If you didn't have any local (non-sync'd) notebooks, you can just reinstall EN & download everything from the EN servers. If your database was very large, this could take a few hours. But it may be the easiest way.

If you did have local notebooks, someone else will have to guide you b/c I'm Windows.

Thanks for the (extremely) fast response, Burgers.

No local notebooks, but the EN servers have already synced with the clobbered version. In fact, to get to a machine that has an older index of content I would have to get my old computer from IT which I gave up 2 weeks ago.

I did get confirmation from EN support that it's possible to restore from the 'xxx.obsolete' folder, but the response did not include directions on how to do this. Anyone out there have an idea?

Look in 'Libraries/Application Support/Evernote/Data to see what folder I'm talking about - it's automatically generated whenever you upgrade to a new version as a catastrophe-proof backup.

I ran into the same thing. I upgraded to the latest version of Evernote and all of my old notes disappeared (I was using evernote without syncing to the cloud). All my notes were local. I do see that they still exist in my ~Library/Application Suppor/Evernote/data folder under the .obsolete directory, but is there any way I can bring them back into evernote?

Looked at this - did not quite help. I did have a couple of .obsolete folders in my /Library/Application Support/Evernote/data directory, tried renaming them back without .obsolete, but that did not help.

Any ideas?
