081 - Links to Saved Searches (Favourites) - usable from inside and outside EN

AlbertR

Idea

Feature Description

  • In EN you can save searches and pin them to you Favourites.
  • But Favourites are growing over the time and occupy too much space in the Left Side Bar
  • Users would like to store Saved Searches as a clickable link to note texts
    • This would allow to create global TOC notes  with not only links to static notes ...
    • Such links to Saved Searches would point to dynamic result lists...

Expected behaviour

  • Object-Menue on entries in Favourites (Right-Mouse-Button-click), RMB-click) should offer an option to copy a link the the search to the clipboard
    • image.png.8895602af0796d9ef80e19e5aaa67f2b.png
    • ... similar to Alt-Ctrl-L to copy a link to (static) note...

Workaround

  • No really usable workaround inside EN.
  • Here are some suggestions of other EN users
    • Mike P. in October 2024
      • Most of my "shortcuts" appear as advanced search syntax within the body of notes, especially my "dashboard notes" that provide an overview for a particular topic/project. I then have an AutoHotKey script that copies that text into the search bar and executes the search. Works really well for me.

      • Until EN implements any of this I have implemented what Frank recommends, using PhaseExpress.  I created a macro that does a search in EN based upon whatever text I have highlighted in whatever app I am in at the time, EN - Browser - whatever.  The process is highlight text, Shift-Ctrl-Z, look at the results.

Background information (See also...)

    • EN user timva in February 2016 in Forum request
      • ... For the developers, it should be really simple to extend the evernote://view/ protocol with a evernote://search/ subhandler.
      • ... I wrote this in C# and it is 7 lines long... I can only imagine how fast Evernote developers could replicate this and put it in their program.

      • What if I could add a saved search as a hyperlink in my note ? I'd simply like to navigate to this saved search from inside of the note, - same way I navigate to other note with internal link. This gives me an option to have dynamic table of content, rather than static one, which I can produce after I search my notes.

An Evernote-only version of this, which requires two or three more clicks, is to store the search in an Evernote (plain text) code block.  That comes with a "copy button," which one clicks and then pasts into the search box for searching.

Good suggestion. I actually put my text strings in code blocks but put multiple related strings in the same block.
