Adding tasks using codes (and without having to leave the keyboard)

Idea

A few months ago I was thinking about leaving Evernote, but recent changes have me reconsidering not only staying, but how I use Evernote. In particular, Tasks and Calendar are starting to get good and I'm thinking of shifting from other apps to Evernote for these too. But there's one thing that is really irking me about Evernote Tasks: it looks like it been built exclusively for a touch screen app, not for those of us at a laptop or PC that are just typing everything up. Consequently, I find adding tasks in Evernote Tasks really slow because I keep having to reach for my mouse.

Currently I use Todoist, and they really have thought through their interface. It's easy to use both in touch screen and when typing. That's because it uses code (presumably Javascript) to recognise key phrases. For example:

  1. It recognises time related terms - like today, tom, 9am Saturday, 7pm tom, noon tue - and knows what to do with them.
  2. It recognises priority using the following tags - !!1 = high alert; !!2 = medium alert and so on.
  3. It's easy to add tags using the @ character - e.g. @work , @school

Being able to do something like this in Evernote Tasks would have me as a convert. That's in part because Evernote can now integrate notes within tasks really easily AND because tasks with starting and end times get automagically added to the calender, which is great!

Thanks for your consideration. :)

PS: And as a Linux user, having a native client distributed via Flatpak would be great also.

To create a task, alt-T or the / command.

Other available task shortcuts (which you can find by clicking on the little keyboard icon at the bottom of the left column):

Thanks @VincentC. I already knew about the '/' command which is neat. (i'm also a Notion user and always thought this was a cool feature). The other keybindings I didn't know, especially 'alt+T'.

Having said that, these keybindings don't capture the time or priority of a task. To do that means slowing down the work flow by reaching for the mouse to click on a time, twiddling with the date and clock, and then back to add the priority, etc. If we could just type in particular key terms that are captured by Tasks on that line it would be way more convenient for those of us using a PC or laptop interface.

Thanks for the tip though!
