Sort by title: Sort order is not correct

Recommended Posts

The sort order of notes is not correct when I sort by title.

Create six notes in an empty notebook with the following note titles: 1 - 2 - 10 - 11 - 21 - 22

Then sort by title. The results list is now displayed as follows: 1 - 10 - 11 - 2 - 20 - 21

That is not correct. Correct would be: 1 - 2 - 10 - 11 - 20 - 21

Already discussed in other threads.  One version is alphabetic sorting which chooses all the lines starting with 1,  then all the lines starting with 2;  the other is numeric which realises that 2 is less than 10.  Feedback@evernote.com to request an option to choose between the two;  otherwise use better numbers with leading zeros - 001,  002,  010 etc...

EN: Please give the possibility to choose between:

- alphabetic sorting which chooses all the lines starting with 1,  then all the lines starting with 2;

- numeric which realises that 2 is less than 10

Thank you. Here is a part of the mail:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alphabetical_order#Modified_letters "In French, modified letters (such as those with diacritics) are treated the same as the base letter for alphabetical ordering purposes. For example, rôle comes between rock and rose, as if it were written role".

Wikipedia articles are written by users like you and me. It’s a great source, but it’s nothing authoritative or official.

Beside this one can argue in favor of treating it all like the base character, and another person can argue against it.

Personally I am in favor for simple solutions that are easy to understand. Especially when using multiple languages treating the diacritics as special characters would move them on top - this means rôle would be listed before raaaaaa

I wouldn’t be watching there in a list.

There are references to consolidate the text (14)

Before august the order was correct, and it was confortable.

EN doesn't interact with users in this forum, apparently, but they did provide a response in a recent Reddit discussion about this including a statement that they don't intend to change the sort order again.

Thank you for this (surprising) information.

The Reddit post that @thefryhole provided above has a link to this article, which is very informative both for sorting and for tags in shared notes:

Sync update: faster and more efficient with RENT metadata sync – Evernote Help & Learning

Some users might want to keep a note with the ASCII table in Evernote for reference!

So there is no choice, I quit EN for NOTION.
À tous, je souhaite bonne continuation.

It hasn't been mentioned much here that I've seen but, in addition to numbers, my understanding is that ASCII will put most emoji at the bottom of the sort order.  Given that there seem to be numerous folks posting here suggesting emojis to "spice up" or force-rank their note lists, I am surprised we haven't seen more questions about that change.
