Is it possible to see ALL your tags in one place?

Recommended Posts

I've got hundreds off tags - I want to see them in one place as an overview and to check my tag 'structure'. I was able to do that quite easily when we had Legacy but I can't find a way of doing it now. Anyone got any ideas?

TIA

THANKS FOR THE PROMPT RESPONSE BUT I'M AFRAID YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT BECAUSE, (MORE LIKELY!), I DIDN'T EXPLAIN IT TOO WELL!

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ALL MY TAGS ON ONE PAGE NOT IN A DROP DOWN LIST.

OK, but to check a structure, I think it's a good idea to see the structure 😉

You may click on the small ">" in front of each parent tag. Check content and close it thereafter.
Unfortunately this list may get very long because it does not use a wide screen (like in Legacy) 😞

But you may be right: It's not very easy to change anything if you find problems within your structure.

My workaround: Open a substructure, make a screen shot (i.e. by using tools like GreenShot to save paper...), re-organize tags by drag&drop tags to other parents.

Albert - thx for the advice re Greenshot - my list is VERY, VERY long!!

Maybe if by some miracle there's actually someone from EN reading this, they'll do something about it!

Yeah, the tag "Kingdom" (as they call it) is pretty crappy if you get above a certain number of tags. I don't have too many tags but I have enough that being able to see them full-screen (or at least in a much bigger window) would help with organization and re-organization. According to some insiders, tag usage in Evernote is low so they haven't seen it as a priority, so the more we advocate for it (via feedback@evernote.com, social media, support tickets etc.) the better the chances.

Hi Paul,

It just irritates the h*** out of me that you can't see all your tags in one place. Obviously, using tags to organise your notes is very old fashioned!

As a tags user, one of the problems with tags is that people don't see that they can structure their notes more powerfully with tags instead of just using tags as things like "important" or "project" or whatever.

Maybe even Evernote themselves (even pre-Bending Spoons) lost the vision as the v10 version implementation of tags has never been as good as the legacy version (most definitely the case on MacOS).

Also, the now long standing bug of clicking on a link to another note in a filtered tag list and having that drop you off at the home page and/or wiping out your filter... tags seem to be second class citizens in Evernote for the moment.

Of course!  It's a self-fulfilling prophecy: they have a weak implementation and force the list to the bottom of the navigation bar, thus promoting the use of folders (which are more limited!).

By supporting a Tag-Focused approach to organization, users could put their notes in any number of "tag folders" within a deep hierarchy of topics to which they relate.

Obviously somebody not knowing about the power of tags is living in such a place:

Hey, that´s the main traffic out in front of my sister's place... and yes, she would be clueless about even using Evernote - her husband less (they are not Amish, just lived there before the Amish bought up all the farms around them - it's a wonderful relaxing place)

This also happens if it is a list of search results which makes me think most peoples search strategy is "find the right notebook and scroll".

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this to be fixed... Hopelessness surrounds me now.

Okay. Emotions aside. Tags are the most powerful organisational tools I know of. Organizing by notebooks is for kids. If you are dealing with hundreds of papers on various topics it becomes impossible to categorise them into concrete verticals. Every paper belongs to many categories. Tags are a life saver for people like me.

And sometimes I am curious who are those people who pay for Evernote for such simple use cases that doesn't involve tags. No offence to anyone. Just my thoughts.

Maybe a lot of folk think differently to you... some of them adults as well.

Sure. I am not not denying that. But I feel that tags are an important tool that enables complex note organization. Remove tags and EN is much simpler. And I am sure many people use Evernote primarily because of tags. They, like me, feel disappointed when tags don't work properly.

Also, there is nothing obvious about the statement below:

I think that was a joke/sarcasm.

@bumblebeenero"organizing by notebooks is for kids"

What's wrong with thinking like a kid ?

Took me quite a long time to embrace the power of Tags. You all have shown me the 🕯️.

I get that people who use tags heavily love them - but not everyone thinks the same way, organizes the same way, or problem-solves the say.  Diversity is a beautiful thing.

I just had a situation where I thought using a tag would be helpful.  Nope - I spent more time adding tags to notes than I imagined I would. Instead I just took a few minutes to jigger my notebook structure a bit and I am back to my previous level of productivity.  I deleted the tag.

There are other situations where I have found a >few< tags helpful, but they are few and far between for me.

So, no, not all heavy users rely on tags.  Some of us are perfectly happy organizing in other ways.

I can learn a couple of things here.

My comment was never intended to offend anyone. I can understand that other user may have different ways of organizing notes.

Since this post is about expanding the tags feature, I was talking about tags. I sure do need to pick my words more carefully.

No offence taken!  Tags are an essential part of many people's workflow, and many of them are frequent contributors here. That's great!  When the conversation turns to "tags are essential" I sometimes (not all the time!) will chime in with an alternate perspective.

Bottom line is, if Evernote offers tags, they should support if as fully as notebooks.

Tags have always been promoted as 'the' means of organization in Evernote, especially since there is no filing hierarchy other than notebooks.

Therefore I can't understand why they didn't implement a proper tag management in all these years and managed to break even their rudimentary implementation with V10.

No wonder many users don't use them at all.

Edit: a good implementation example would be Leap.app on the Mac
