I find the 'new' sidebar extremely distracting. Three large buttons - particularly the orange and violet/purple ones are genuinely bothersome. Another issue with the sidebar, in its present form, is that these big buttons use up a lot of valuable screen real-estate, pushing my notes-list down within the sidebar (posted about this over a month ago).

I could 'collapse' the sidebar but I find drag-and-drop works best for me with the sidebar 'open'.

I wrote all of this to feedback@. Do long-term users (or people with Evernote contacts) have insights into the thinking on this UI decision? Any chance we will see a change or options to hide these buttons?

I think you can forget it - these are primary UI elements. They were styled that way for a reason, and I doubt they will be modified a lot.

Some small changes maybe, but nothing along the line of your posting.

Personally if I would make a list of where to put devs capacity, this would be waaaaay down. They are tinkering much too much with UI games, neglecting serious bugs and disfunctions.

Happy with mine collapsed most of the time, and I only expand it if I want to drag & drop.

Quick reminder that the default open and collapse sidebar keyboard shortcut is simply F10 so very easy to do.

Same. I started keeping the side bar collapsed because I found it too distracting and no longer as useful.
