Staying in notebook with new notes

I’m trying to use Evernote for journaling (iOS). Once I save a note & try to start a new one, I’m taken back to “first notebook”. I don’t seem to be able to remain in the notebook I started in. I have to go back to “Notebooks” and choose the journal notebook. Am I missing something totally obvious? Help appreciated as this does seriously slow my workflow.  Thanks

When you are inside of a notebook, a new note will be created in that notebook. When you are in All Notes view, it will be created in your default notebook.

I wrote a long reply, and in doing that I found my error. I need to click the green < at the page top…not the word “notes” at page bottom.
