Checklist loses focus after typing some characters and stops responding to typing

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This starting happening to me a couple months ago and I decided to finally log it as a bug. Still happening even after updating the app to the latest version today.

Here are the repro steps:

  1. Open a note with a Checklist
  2. Start typing in one of the Checklist points and eventually it will loose focus and stop responding to typed characters

Please let me know if there's any other info you need from need. Attached a video to show the bug in action. Thanks!

Sorry to see this. The Evernote for Android editor is absurdly buggy on some phones / with some keyboards and has been for years. Phones using Gboard (like Google Pixels) have a slew of major editor problems, for example.

I can't recreate your problem exactly on my pixel 8 Pro using the gboard keyboard, but I did find a very annoying bug that might be related - when I'm writing a checklist, if the first word in a new checklist line gets autocorrected, the word gets deleted and the cursor moves up a line. Example: write doesnt as the first word in a checklist line. As soon as I tap the spacebar the word should be corrected to doesn't. But instead, the word gets deleted and the cursor moves up to the line above.

Stuff like this is maddening.

Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone! The more people who come forward the bigger the case will be for getting these issues fixed ASAP

Same issue here. Probably now a paid feature to be able to type in a note!

I'm already on paid plan. For quite some years actually 😅 🥲☹️😭

Same thing happens here with my Samsung Galaxy S21. It's been like that for a week for me too.

Any updates?

Just to let you know.
I reached the end of my patience. I found a great App. Called Notion. The App is so good that it let me just create to do lists on my phone without hassle.

With pain in my hearth I leave Evernote, after being on paid membership for 11 years.

It's an illustration of the level of frustration I've reached. And I wanted to inform the ones in this forum that have the same issue. All waiting for a solution.

I have been having this same problem on Android with all types of notes for many weeks now (since sometime in July?.

Type one or two characters. Suddenly it stops responding and the cursor ends up somewhere else in the note.

Close and reopen the note. Accepts one or two more characters and then does the same thing.

Sometimes closing and reopening the app gets it working right again for awhile. Sometimes not.

VERY FRUSTRATING

About the same time the app started running very slowly on opening notes.

I have a Galaxy S22+ Android 14 One UI 6.1 Samsung keyboard 5.8.20.12

Is there hope?

Maybe? Hope springs eternal... It's clear to me that Android has been the red-headed-stepchild ever since the v10 days. Back then Ian Small and most of the senior execs and senior devs all used iPhones as their main mobile devices, and Android users consequently received less attention. (Confirmed by discussion with insiders).

It doesn't seem like much has changed in the BS era - Federico uses iPhone as his daily driver, so he probably thinks everything in the mobile world is "fine" as he doesn't see it. It seems they are most responsive to feedback on X/Twitter - tweet @fedesimio to get more attention on Android.

Same experience. I use bulleted lists and checkists often.  Stops accepting any typed characters. Deletes words. Sometimes if I go to next line, then back to prior line it might accept the typed characters. If not fixed will have to cancel my long-lasting subscription given it now takes longer to make notes.

I have a Samsung S21 Ultra and have been experiencing the same issue where Evernote freezes up after I type a few letters, then the curser randomly jumps somewhere else. I'm trying to be patient, hoping it will get fixed with one of the updates, but I just received notice that my subscription is up for renewal. I've been a user since 2013 so struggling with renewing a product that isn't working. Any sense of this getting fixed?

Appreciate everyone's helpful comments & adding mine so they know we're hoping for a fix, sooner than later. Thank you.

As a former support manager I can only plead with you NOT to DDOS the support team.  They're there,  they're very busy,  and the last thing they need is users with unresolved issues plastering them with multiple "are we there yet?" emails.  You're only adding to the workload and slowing everything down.

Report your issues correctly - get a ticket number - use a workaround,  or if it's critical use a different app - and be patient.

@gazumped A ticket number isn't much to get your hopes up if the bug seriously hinders basic use of the app. Especially paying, very loyal customers, need a little more to stay happy customers.

You stand up for the support team. I understand and appreciate that.
But I hope you also understand that customers don't really care how busy they are. They pay for a product that works well. Not for hard-working support staff.

How long is the note? I think there's something on the bugfix tracker about lag on mobile with long notes.

Sending in multiple tickets makes things go slower not faster.

I think this is a long standing issue with some Android devices and the Gboard editor.

I'm having the same problem.   Unable to input checklists which is the main function I use.

Unable to open a ticket because they keep telling me to attach an Activity Log even though I have.

I'm a retired computer programmer.    This is a rather obvious problem.  Don't apps get tested nowadays??

Then reply to the standard email and tell them that...?
